JB Grand Vitara Emission Control Problems

Post by MikeyB »

Newbie here....so please be gentle!

I've recently bought a JB Grand Vitara (Nov. 2005) V6 Auto.

Lovely car, our 1st 4x4.

Anyway, we've had it for 3 weeks now and the MIL light has come on a few times indicating an Emissions Control problem.

Taken it to Suzi Service here in Brisbane who inform me they need the car whilst the MIL is on. Bit difficult there.
Car is still inder Manufacturers warranty.

Anyway, they couldn't identify which O2 sensor was playing up as there are 4 (pre and post CAT). So using my scan-tool, I found out it was Sensor 1, Bank 2 that was trimming fuel at different % rate to the other sensors.

Anyone else had such issues with the O2 sensors....and is it necessarily a faulty O2???

Sorry, no experience with these Vitara's....totally new to this.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Sounds like the dealer isn't interested in fixing it... They'd be able to extract more info with their Suzuki Scan Tool than you'd ever get out with a generic tool. (So they'd know which sensor it was that logged the fault!)

Perhaps have a talk to them and firmly express your desire to have the offending sensor replaced?

Out of interest what scan tool are you using? My "all singing and dancing" UIF handheld won't even connect to my 2004 XL-7 and I've heard of other GV owners not having much luck. Or perhaps Suzuki have finally fixed up whatever issue prevents the older models talking to generic tools?

Jeeez, we had a new 02 sensor fitted 1 week ago, and on comes the MIL light again!

I am totally fecked off with this, no help at all from Suzuki dealer to get it sorted. When I called to inform them, I got the "oh well, just bring it back and we'll have a look".

Can anyone please recommend a good dealer in the Brisbane area to take it too for a 4th go???? Car's still under Manuf. warranty.

Cheers,
Mike
