80 Series Crown wheel and pinion-Help Needed

Post by David J Helfrich »

Hi All
I live in Cape Town ,South Africa and have just joined this forum.
I have a 1996 80 series GX carb model cruiser.I recently fitted a 5" lift (OME) and added 35" Mickey Thompsom Muds.
The problem is that i need to change the diff ratio's.I currently have the standard 1:411 and i want to fit 1:488.
What are you guys running ?
Where in Melbourne could i source the crown wheel and pinion + kit.I need a reputable suplier.
I have some mates coming over in May to compete in the Outback Challenge (4 teams) They would brint it back for me
Could you supply me with details.

I bought mine from USA, from a place called G&J differentials, they have an ebay store. They were about half the price of anyone in aus, including freight.

Ditto. Gears for my 75 were a few hundred cheaper getting them from the states (through locktup4x4.com.au ) than locally. Mine are "genuine gear" brand - unsure if/what they make for the 80 series.

Is 4.88 a bit extreme for 35's? Even a ~4.56 will probably bring ratios back to lower than stock. (depending, of course, on the intended use of the cruiser!)
