Auto Slip

Post by OVERKLL GU »

Just got a GQ Shorty Import from Japan its a 4.2 Diesel AUTO called a Safari. Runs good done 160,000
The Auto feels like it is slipping in 3rd gear when you power up a hill unless you put your foot down ¾ then it feels ok if you back off feels like it is slipping again. If you press the power button and turn the Over Drive off the Auto feels fine no slipping. Any Ideas doe anyone know if this is normal or an easy fix???
:?
PS. It is getting a 4 inch lift and 33's just for fun!!

Is it blowing much smoke at all when its slipping and then when you powerup ? It may be the injectors, it may just be the auto transmission is out of time. As for timing it, its a simple issue.

Try servicing the trans, being direct from japan means it may never have had an auto service. ;)

Think I will nip up to Sam this arvo and get him to look at the Auto.. Will have to post up some before and after shots. Want to put GTR seats in it better stereo etc etc does not even have a tape deck.. Anyhow I need a new toy as the GU is working better than ever ;)

Is that same 4.2 that we have here or is it direct injection?
I have heard that they couldn't make auto tranny for 4.2 td,and also heard that they had direct injection 4.2 td for Jap market only.

Don’t know about the direct injection but it goes better than other 4.2’s I have test driven. I will have to get some pics up for you guys tonight I did not want to put any up till it has some surgery but what the hay… The Plan is… 4 Inch Lift, 33 MTRs on Black rims, Sam tells me that I will get tail shaft vibes so double carden joint for starters… Might do rock hoppers I think with the 4.2 and the AUTO and gearing it would be a good thing… If I put up pics no one say anything about the side mirrors as they are going… I’m telling you it is full truck style !! :)
