oil filter selection

Post by forget »

g'day got sa question about oil filter selection on a range rover 1990 3.9
it currently has a ryco z89a (see link)
http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue ... /part/Z89A
or can i fit the larger z9 (see link)
http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue ... er/part/Z9

there seems to be enough room and flow rates etc are the same and they fit on the 3.5

below is some figures from ryco

RIF-FA9 3/8 13 7 100 32 Z9
RIF-FA10 3/8 13 7 100 32 Z89A

Under extreme conditions of upward axle movement, the axle can clout a Z9. A Z89A is a short Z9.
The change from the 3.5 is that the 3.9 has a sandwich for the oil cooler behind the filter.
And before you say impossible, remember the bump stops can compress flat, and people on other forums have had it happen.
