Yeah. It'll hold up to the power. A lot more people are using auto boxes now with a manual lock out. Food for thought and may be easier and cheaper to fit up with adapters.

i already have a reco 5 speed out of my old 60 that has a 350 in it so if it will hold up i would rather use it because i still have to buy coilovers.but still would like to know the better motor.

Always better to have more cubes. Gives you more usable torque for less stress on the engine. The earlier LS1's had oil feed problems as well. Depends on cost of the engine.

i would use the standard cruiser auto from behind a 2F. they are plenty strong and don't have to stuff around with crossmembers, etc.
A turbo 400 will not bolt straight up to a gen3.
stay away from the L76, the LS2 is a much better motor, look in the toyota section, there is a thread covering this already.

Lucky b&?#dard that thing went like bat out of hell . If it still has all the mounts for the motor, coilovers, auto etc wouldn't it be alot quicker if you replaced what is missing . Are you goin to put the build up in the members section, so people can see how to build up a nissan killer
ls2 or ls1
i was only going to buy the front housing out of it but i ended up buy the cab chassis as well i will be replacing at the panels and putting coilovers allround i still need to chase up a 80 series rear diff for it when i have some cash or sell my other 60 if i get a good offer.

G`day nathen
I`m running a ls1 at the moment with the 4l60e (Standard Auto) for the ls1 or 2. swaff did a stage 2 kit to get it to hold 1st and shift second harder and it`s been there for a couple of years now and it seems good.I plan to go to ls2 at some stage soon but have other mods gobbling up my funds. I`m also inclined to agree with 60 mad if the truck worked well before and unless you could see there were probs I`d set it up the same. being a trial and error bloke myself the teething probs can be some of the worst hurdles and by going the same way those probs are all but solved ..You prob already know but the diff isn`t in the same place on an 80 to normal lcruiser transfer and to avoid diaganal tailshaft probs I (Think?) you might have to go 80 transfer too.Turbo 400 are about the easyist holden auto to be strong but if you want some more legs or to run lower ratios a 4l60e already bolted up might br the cheapest option. Somtimes the stuff in the shed doesn`t end up cheap in the long run..Cheers mate Ps cool old truck.

thanks for the info wilba
im thinking it might be easy for me to chase up a gq transfer case and rear diff because it is still set up for it and i only have to weld 2 4link brakets to the top of the diff and it will be rolling again.
pick it up tomorrow carnt wait
cheers

No worries nathan. I ment to let you know that it`s aa good idea to run a temp gauge for the tranny if you havent got one and really important to run a good cooler with a thermo. The only things we have found to kill autos is heat or too much power for the type of tranny. The turbo 400 should handle ls1 or ls2 without too many mods.just make sure it will hold gears.Have fun mate
Inya Racing..
A speed camera would have prevented that!
LS2 6 litres...drove one on night shift ...did 170 km round trip with a mixture of steady driving and a bit of city..13 litres per 100 kilometres average...that's cheap driving for such a powerfull motor. Won't be as a good when fitted to the fourby but a great engine.
