4k carby problems on a zook

Post by troopy94 »

gday everyone a while ago i had the standard carby on my 1.3 die so i read the thread on webers and decided to put a 4k carby on it.The carb i got was a pre polution model but the issue ikm havin is that it idles for around 30 seconds then drops right off and stalls. It revs well with no hesitations but just cant seem to get it to idle right hopefully someone here might know how to sort out this problem

Some Corolla carbs have a 'slow idle down' setup where if you give it a rev it will rev up but then come back to say 1200rpm and fall slowly from there down to usual 750 or so idle.
This may be your problem. Check the adjustable damper on the linkage assembly.

am guessing you gave power to the idle solinoid too?

have tried adjusting the idle dampener but didnt make any difference.I have adjusted the float level without success and have made sure there is power to the idle soleniod it seems to be idling better but still eventually drops away too far and stalls.I have been offered a 2 litre nissan front cut i think it was a ca20 would that be an easy conversion

are there fuel pressure and idle mixture screws as well? are all of your vacuum lina attached? are there any vaccum ports on the manifold that you may have missed?

i thought i had missed a vaccum line but they are all connected the mixture screws`dont seem to alter much it either idles very high or just drops of and dies

Sounds like a vacuum leak.
Squirt some water the baseplate (while its idling high) and see if it splutters.

I had the same problem on my 3k carby and it was the idle solenoid not getting any power so a new wire and all was good. I've also been told by a wrecker that the idle solenoids cark it quite frequently on the rolla carbs but i don't know if theres any substance behind those words.

i did check that and the solenoid makes a click sound when power is supplied i do have a spare 3k carby ill try the solenoid from that one.I just want to get this thing to run properly im tired of missing out on trips its a great fun car to drive offroad and cheaper than the troopy

Mines just packed it in today! Sputters and farts and loses power when cruising on the highway at anything over 80'ks an hour in 5th so I'm thinking some crap has gotten through the fuel filter (which was blocked changed on side of the road on the way to work) and is partially blocking the secondary fuel jet or something similar. Any other ideas which don't involve having to pull the carby down? It idles pretty good just loses power at certain rpms under load?
Might be a chance to try out a Nissan 720 carby which I have sitting round the shed.

undo the float bolts and drain chamber and then blow jets out with air
