Tb42 dizzy
Tb42 dizzy
G'day guys i have had a pertronics kit in but it always miss fires at high revs i have done the plugs and leads but it still runs a bit rough, when i had points i was changing them every 5000ks so now im thinking that my dizzy could be stuffed is there an after market one i can get or can i fit an efi one to it if so what year would be the best option
any info or feed back much appreciated
cheers paul

EFI one will not help because its has no vacuum advance unit, it also does not have any points or point replacement as it acts at a crank angle sensor for the ECU to tell the coil to fire, it works on a totally different principal to the normal dizzy's
Petronics are ok but i have found even though Crane cam has external box its a much better unit as its driven by optical rather than HAL, works even if it gets a bit if water in it.

You can use the petronix to fire an ICE ignition 7amp module, in conjunction with one of the ICE coils this will fix any lack of spark. We only use Micheals stuff on high performance engines, LPG and forced induction. Its good for about 10 000 rpm on a V8 running methanol.
They use these in the states in the engine masters competition against crane and MSD and win.
You will need to retune the engine as the mixture will lean out with the improved spark.

Joel,
Would you be so kind as to give us an idea on the most effective method for providing enough spark in an TB42 dual fuel vehicle.
Would the Pertronix with an ICE Module do the trick here, or even say the pertronix itself. (many many people swear by the pertronix, but from what i read its limited in the amps it can carry)
Another suggestion made to me was to use an ignition module to fire a coil pack, say from a commodore, to achieve good spark.
Be interested in your thoughts.

Use the ICE module and petronix, no moving parts and big output, I have fitted numerous with great results, it will easily cope with duel fuel, I use them on boosted straight LPG and they are really good, I suggest you get the coil from ICE also as it is large and capable of handling the output and heat generated from high outputs.
Cheers

Sounds interesting mate but not sure what this or how it works so i have the pertronics at the mo so what is the ICE ignition and where can get it more info or pics would be greatPGS 4WD wrote:You can use the petronix to fire an ICE ignition 7amp module, in conjunction with one of the ICE coils this will fix any lack of spark. to be honest i'd rather see you throw the pertonics unti over you shoulder towards the bin. far to sensitive to voltage and not overly reliable.
in saying that befor you change anything els go and buy a new coil. Be it MSD crane or ice or who ever, it doesn't matter. DON'T EVER USE TOPGUN LEADS, and never use champion spark plugs. (yes i know i'll upset some people in saying that)
after you get the coil and quality plugs and leads. (NGK or denso for plugs and bocsh, magnacore or eagle for leads) if you still have problems get rid of the pertronics and fit a crane XR3000 optical pick-up. making sure you have a proper 12v power suply for teh ignition.
you don't 'need' CDIs or any amplifiers of any kind for what is basicly a stock engine, LPG or otherwise

i'd be very interested in hearing your explanation of exactly how that would work.PGS 4WD wrote:

I would assume the improoved spark would give the fuel a complete/more efficient burn effectively leaning out the mixture.
Aside from my tb all my other petrol cars ran webers, so were easy to tune. It is common on bikes to have to retune carbs when fitting Dyna electronic/digital ignitions, some just need floats adjusted n some need rejetting.

I had mine missfiring and farting. Took it to a placer here in Brissy and he reset the throttle settings and replace the dizzy cap. Since then no ploblems on either feul.
