Is there a way of testing temp sender

Post by ORSM4B »

Hi guys is there anyway of testing a temp sender to see if it is sending the right signal to the temp guage.....

Also do you have to change them like a thermostat when you overheat...

The temp sender is for a Nissan TB42

Cheers Chris....

Oh and whats better a factory stat or aftermarket..

Temp senders are a temperature sensitive resistor - resistance decreases as temperature increases. It's unlikely to have been damaged by an engine overheating.

A Haynes/Gregory's repair manual should give you some typical temperature/resistance values for your vehicle - different senders have different curves, so you need the values for the sender used for your make/model.

Personally, I'd take a factory supplied stat over aftermarket.

Yes, test one by removing it and get a pan of water on stove using muti-meter to test resistance

Don't let it sit on the bottom of the pan as it will be hotter than the surrounding water and stir the water to eliminate hot spots.
