MTZ 31's or 33's?

Gday guys,

I'm after a new set of tyres for the 03 Lux and am keen on a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ's. The Lux is standard height / standard suspension and running (i think) 15 inch alloys... if not 15 they're 16..

I was told that the 31 inch MTZ's would be most suitable as the 33's would rub, throw out the speedo, mess up all the vehicles ratios and my fuel consumption would go through the roof.

I was hoping i could get a few opinions on this prior to making my decision.

33s wont fit without a body lift and a fair bit of panel trimming. i have 31s on my ifs lux and they rub on the rear of the front wheel arch on compression when turning.

this was discussed recently but in regard to 32s

If you don't need 33s then don't run them. Apart from the clearance issues they do absolutely stuff yourt fuel economy, more so than almost any other mod you do.

Yeah I totally agree to go the 31's, the 33's will definetly rub big time, will rip your mud flaps off and cause heaps of problems, been there, done that. I've now got 31 MTZ's on my IFS and they are a great tyre offroad but will knock your performance and economy around on the bitumen.

Dipmaker how much economy are we talking mate?... i'm currently getting just over 500kms per tank of diesel... how much can i expect to lose from that??? :?

I think you will find it will be better to run a second set of cheap tyres and rims if you use it as a daily driver, this will save both fuel and stop a lot of wear on the MTZ's.
I put mine on last year and did a trip from Brisbane to Cape York and back and admittedly I was carrying a lot more weight than usual but my fuel economy dropped to about half.

Good idea on the cheaper second set for around town.. cheers..
