80 series 4.5L missing at idle
I have an 80 series 4.5L petrol with almost 300,000km on the clock. Started missing terribly a couple of weeks back. I changed the plugs which appeared to fix it for a week or so. It's progressively gotten worse again to where it is rather annoying.
Only happens at idle and appears to be worse once it gets up to operating temp.
My next step is to replace the leads and see if that does the trick. If not move on to the dizzy.
If that doesn't work not sure where to next. Any body got any suggestions of what else it coul be?
Cheers,

Re: miss
Thanks v8shorty40. Will get some leads some time this week. Might chuck in a bottle of wynn's spitfire as suggested as well as it cannot hurt!v8shorty40 wrote:mate do the leads,i had the exact problem only mine missed under load and idle.

Will let everyone know how I go.

Has it ever had the valve shims done? They're easy to check clearances when you rip the rocker cover off (just check a manual for specs) If the clearances are tight it will cause a slight miss at idle getting slightly worse as things heat up and expand. Worse case scenario is burnt valves if left unchecked.
If I cant drive it, drink it, build it or bang it I dont care about it!!
You are scaring me now...... hope its just the leads! Guess I'd better find time to check it though!Troopy93 wrote:I'd be looking at getting the valve clearances checked,my brother had the same problem with his and ended up burning 3 valves, costing $ 2k + to fix it.......
