60 series steering problem & can't find 5th gear

I keep chewing up rod ends on my 60 series drag link. One or both. Wheels are balanced and box is tight. Ends on the tie-rod are fine. Any suggestions?

Also, different vehicle, BJ70 can't select 5th gear, just can't find it even when the car is not running. The rest of the gearbox is good although the selector is sloppy. Easy fix?

try replacing the rubber bush under the shifter with one out of another box mick and see how it goes, the blue circle shaped one sometimes has a bell shape on it too if its new

I have some diagrams from Toyota showing which bush to replace as mentioned by "ice"

I'm about to replace it in my 60 and after reading alot of feedback it appears to improve the feel of the gearbox a hell of alot!!!

if the blue ring doesn't fix it, bad luck basically; because the H55F is basically a H42 with an overdrive gear slapped into the extension housing, the shift linkage is far from direct for 5th gear. it's a box out, top off job to fix it, and even then it's a bit hit and miss; if the 5th gear dog and sunchro are worn, or there is bearing wear and slop in the mainshaft, even if you can find 5th gear, it can just pop right back out again.

as for the rod ends, too much lift making them bind? are you using chitty chinese ends?

hey boy on gear box note dose anyone have a diagram for replacing a rubber on the 4x4 hight stick as it keeps jumping out som times for thye 60

Yeah the blue ring is the culperate. If i lift the selector it changes fine.

As for the rod ends, who knows. Maybe I just had a run of bad s/h ones. seems ok now.

they are about $30-$60 from memory from toyota. been a while since i priced one.
