Bloody viscus, what to do??

Post by kitacooch »

95 Disco 3.9L
Hay guys, finally got the radiator re-cored and the donut in the bin  , been off the tracks for few months now, l decided to take a run out to city view. Had a good run out there, temp sat firmly on half all the way there, i cained it through the hills to give it a good test and held well, but f*%# me, got there, let me tyres down, put it into low range and headed up the first hill and by the time i got to the first gate, approx 1km she was boiling. :bad-words: I checked the fan and it was free wheeling (turned the car off, held the fan while someone started it and could hold the fan no probs) all while the electric fans were running full time, i'm guessing the viscus is stuffed???
So, turned around and went home, great trip yeh, got a credit off the park owner though which was good.
Pulled the one out of my 3.5l wreck when i got back, doesn't fit :bad-words: , different size nut and left hand thread as opposed to right hand thread on mine.
WHAT TO DO

1 Do i buy a new viscus fan (lots of coin)
2 Do i fit twin thermos (pros and cons)
3 Do i have the existing viscus locked with screws, but ballanced???(2 or 3 screws in the shaft evenly spaced to lock and keep it ballanced) (but will have the fan running full time)
4 Do i have the viscus repaired??? (drilled and re-oiled)

What would you guys do? Any feed-back be much appreciated

I have a few good 2nd handies laying around. $40 plus postage (without fan) I'm wrecking 2 S1 v8s at the moment.

You should also Already have twin thremo fans on the front of your ac condensor, you could wire these up with a manual bypass, so they come on when you want them to, not only when you have your ac on.

Sounds good to me, will look into postage, are they out of the 3.9L? and are they the right hand thread??
The twin thermos come standard wired into cooling system so when reaches certain temp they will cut in without the A\C, however i did by pass this and ran them full time to help prevent overheating when i first had troubles.
