Auto Transmission cooler

Has anyone installed an auto trans cooler in their Vit? If so, where did you mount it and were there any hassles?

The X-90 auto isn't happy, I'm not game to push it hard on sand until I get a cooler in it :?

I put the auto oil cooler and the PS oil cooler here, same as Go Mick`s. Actually he installed this one aswell.

HASSLES

1)cut out the grille ... check
2)make up new grille from mesh ... check
3)fit new grille ... yeah ... :oops: right ...

might try for some better pics later when not quite so warm out there ... (44 atm)

squik, they look like PWR items, and they are stocked at supercheap or at least they did 6 months ago, the bigger the better i think for autos,

Fitted one to my 4spd auto ....still seems to be goin strong .........goes through the stock auto cooler and then into the aftermarket on the front of the radiator ........still seems to be goin strong ...bought it from as Ozy1 said super cheap..........

Excellent... thanks A1. Is it a complete kit and did you have to knock up a bracket/mount? (pics? :D )

I think the size n model was suited to a 6 cylinder etc ...I have been told that u can have a too large of cooler ...the auto fluid /box etc requires a certain temp etc to work as intended ....so best if you dont go too large ......(this was from Greg Heick (sp) 1madengineer .....from memory ,he's pretty knowledgeable

Comes with hose n clamps normally n the plastic brkts that stick through the cores in the radiator ..n then goes into a self locking nut/clip .....


Very simple to install

Hey Squik....

I need to install one too.

They seem to be about $160 or so and come with all the mounting stuff you need.

By all accounts it is pretty easy to do.



What I was wondering was... (I don't know if you've given it any thought)

Is it worth installing a temperature sensor so you know how hot it is running?

IMHO yes it is worth having a gauge on the auto. They are quite exxy though.

I fitted a cooler to an old Pootrol of mine after the auto was rebuilt. It always dropped out of overdrive on the highway afterwards, guess it was working too well. Do autos run a thermostat? It cooled very well though. They are really easy to fit too!

Wow, the PWR ones at supercheap have gone up since i got mine, i paid $90 each for mine and mine were the v8 versions the biggest they had, im running them on my patrol, dedicated comp truck im running 2 and 2 7inch thermos infront of them, my ayto runs pretty hot when its working hard in the rocks,

i only run the thermos in events really,

Thanks Eddy... the X-90 may be going soon :cry: not practical... we need something bigger as Podge's new company car is a 2 seater... we now have 3 x 2 seater vehicles :roll:

I will still put one in though... just in case he doesn't sell ;)
