Hilux engine conversion

Post by Kapul »

Hey guys im new to this forum and already i have found out heaps of stuff to keep me busy with my 82 model hilux. Now it used to have a 2.2l diesel in it but snapped an oil line and blew the engine up about 6months ago now and it has been sitting in my yard doing nothing and waiting for me to get motivated. I was thinking about putting a 2.8l turbo diesel in but not sure if this is the best type of conversion... Can anyone possibly offer some suggestions about an engine conversion and maybe point me in the direction of a 'how to' guide... I realy dont want a v8 and it has to be diesel so if we could keep it within that and something which maybe doesn't require too much insane modification. Thankyou for your help in advance

2.8 Litre 3L is a good transplant. You may need a 3L bell housing as I don't think the one you have is the same, but I could be wrong. Also chassis brackets could be different, but again, I'm not sure.

I think there was a 2.8 advertised on this site for $450 not long ago.

Dropping the 2.8D in would be a simple case of lift the dead 2.2, Drop in the 2.8D with the 2.8D Gearbox and bellhousing (then you get a 5 speed!), hook up the injector pump, hook up the fuel lines and hook up the starter motor.

Dont ask whats involved in dropping in a 3.0L turbo diesel tho... its...involved.
