soft top security

Post by shandy »

hi all.

i have a 96 vitara swb and i was wondering if anyone has ever had problems with security with their soft top?

The back window can be unsipped from the outside and the whole car can be accessed, what has anyone done to stop people from undoing it?

thanks mitch

In my experience, soft tops only keep the honest people out.
If you don't want anything stolen, don't leave it in your Zook.

Or install some sort of box that is bolted down and lockable. :)

What p##ses me off, is when some 'tard jimmy's your driverside doorlock with a screwdriver to break in and raid your glovebox and doesn't notice that the car has a soft top. Can't remember how much it cost to replace the barrel lock, mobile phone and everything else pinched… I was more pissed at the unnecessary damage to my doorskin.

:x :x :x :x :x

One day I catch one of these little s##ts and jimmy their rear end with a screwdriver.

Anyway - Cash Box bolted to the floor under the front passenger seat. Can't see it when the seat is push back in to normal position! :D

i agree with cairnszook - dont leave anything in there.

I leave both my zuk and my mazda completely unlocked and sometimes with windows down too... i'd rather some cheeky sh*t get in and look around than break something to get in and look around.

last time the mazda got rummaged through i called the police to report it and they actually came out and fingerprinted it - even though nothing was stolen... pretty impressive!

someone broke into a mates car and the cops came a printed it. what a mess. cost him more to get the car detailed to remove the printing powder than what was stolen.

But like the others said dont leave anything you want to keep in it.

if a theif wants whats in ya car nothing will stop them getting it.

This is easy :)
remove the doors and the roof and you can safely leave it at macca's car park all week end and it will still be there when you finally remember where you put it, I mean when you finally decide to go and pick it up

I've got a rather large angry carpet snake, once I was moving house and had it in a small tank on the passenger seat of my commy. Went to get some cash out at the local shopping centre atm and noticed some young delinquints poking around the commy (I'd left the windows down). Before I could get to them one screamed, hit his head as he pulled it out the drivers side window and they both piss bolted lol. As long as it's not tooooooooo hot then that could be an interesting anti theft device.

Well there you go, it's also illegal to steal from someones car too....

I'd never leave mine in the car for long as it gets waaaaaaaay to hot.

An alarm is only going to tell you it has been broken into. You will find out either way when you return. Shopping centre etc useless. Even thoe I have a hard top just dont leave anything in it. Use a back pack or something and take your things with you. Also when parking in bad areas empty the grove box and leave it open. Nothing to see nothing to steal.

I'm afraid "security" and "softtop" are mutually exclusive, they just don't go together. I never lock my doors even when the top is up, why encourage some little turd to take to it with a stanley knife?

But - I am still shaking my head over this - three nights ago I left my Zuke in the driveway at the side of my house as usual. Doors unlocked, windows down and the top neatly rolled up in the back. And as usual I had forgotten to remove the face from my modest Pioneer CD tuner.

So some little bugger comes along, ignores the stereo and pinches the rolled up soft top!!

Gawd only knows why, it's a LWB styleside Sierra so it won't fit anything else. Probably just for a mindless lark, I might eventually find it in a vacant block nearby.

I was a bit stroppy as it's the original 1985 top, still in good nick thanks to regular Armor-all. Fortunately I have a spare top, a NOS one I picked up a few years ago but it was for a low-roof 1.0 LWB so I have to get some barwork fabricated for it. Anyway, I reported it to the police, just in case they come across it. (RoadNazi, if you're reading this you're going to love it!)

The young lady constable at the counter asks what was stolen and I reply that someone stole the roof of my car - the look on her face was absolutely priceless!!

She starts filling in the spaces in the Incident Report... Is there CCTV in the area? Huh - in my driveway?? Nooo. Were the doors locked and the windows wound up? Nope. "Ah, well you must expect this if you don't lock your doors, you know." Umm, the roof was not on, remember, it's what was stolen...

As I left the station her face was glowing red with embarrassment or confusion, I'm not sure which.

Security? In a soft top Suzuki? Sorry, this does not compute!

Cheers - Longbaser.

Its a sad fact that would only stop honest people.
I have custom draws that cant be opened unless the tailgate is opened but I dont drive it when I haveto park for extended periods.

well fit the loudest alarm you can , i then have it set up so it blasts the cabin, get a siren that has a battery back up , you can then use a microwave sensor and point it in to cabin,

Works pretty good for me so far, if it goes off you cant stay incar, and it resets it self

You can set up microwave detectors so they will give warning beeps if someone gets too close to the vehicle. So you don't have to have someone do damage before the alarm does something, the warning beeps might be enough to deter them.
