3RZ high idle

hey guys, my 3rz has had a high idle since iv got it running, just wondering if anyone has any insite onto why it would be doing this.

It has extractors and a 2" system and a pod filter on it atm but was idling high b4 that also.

Its funny you should mention this.
I have just put in a new motor and over the last 2 day have been trying to work out this same problem.
Tried Aero start to find air leaks, changed sensors (air flow meter, throttle body sensor.), reset computer and still revs around 1500rmp at idel.
So if you have any ideas please help

well yes thats around the same idle im getting, it seems to be something to do with the stepper motor under the tb, if i disconnect it, it will idle normal but runs like a sack of shit. im currently looking for the resistance at cold n running temp for the rear temp sensor (behind the head) , from what im told this may be faulty and leading to it idling high as it thinks it is still warming up.

Any other help ppl...if u dont wanna help me help 83 lux and post it here so i can borrow the help lol

You've both transplanted the 3rz into your rigs right? Had ths problem from the first start up? Pretty sure the computer is expecting a signal from the power steering switch which I'm assuming has not been wired into your rigs. This might be causing the high idle. You'll need to go through your wiring diagram (or consult a good sparky) and find a way to by-pass the power steering switch. If you disconnect the Idle Control Solenoid your idle should come down to normal. You might even be able to just leave it disconnected but it will not idle up when cold.

Just a theory anyway, havent had alot to do with those engines but good luck.

good guess but not that!! i have all the wiring diagrams and its not needed!!

one thing to be aware of is the small vac sense lines from the manifold!! they go to VERY specific positions!!! dont mix them up!!

i have the powersteer idle up wired in, it doesnt work tho i assume due to the high idle, i belive it connects directly to the computer, the only wiring i have tampered with in mine is from the looms that plug into the dash wiring, all of the ecu wiring itself is stock, the vac lines are also in stock postion i belive as i have never thouched these, unless some1 in the wreakers played with them while it was sitting there which isnt a unlikely thing to happen. will continue playing n post my results!

Whats the resitances on the stepper motor. Had a magna at work and it had even resitance across them all bar one with a open circut and it was stuffed could try that

Stepper motor unplugged -= fixy fixy, bung sensor/wiring somewhere

83Lux's conversion has been done for a long time with no idling issues at all. It wasnt untill he threw a rod in the first engine and swapped in the new one that he had the issue. And unplugging the IAC causes other issues so is not really a good idea.

One thing Scott has found is his Alternator was only putting out 11volts so its possible the computer is trying to bump the idle up to compensate. He picked up a new alternator today and will know if this is the problem tomorrow.

83 lux... did you replace your old motor with a previously automatic trans'ed engine?
this was something i was wondering about with rory's (as it came out of an auto hilux) maybe different stepper motor and or adjustment to compensate the torque converter?

no not yet.
Go the alt. from Repco and its not the right one.
Went back to repco to get the right one but you cant buy a replacement on off the shelf. An auto-elecy has to build them.
This may not be true but thats what i have heard ringing around the place.

engine is now cooling down and i will be unplugging the temp sensor behind the head n seeing what that does...anybody no the resistance this thing is surposed to give hot n cold? also would anybody have any insite into this, my engine came from a auto hilux, using a manual ecu tho. Could the stepper motor be different or set differently to have a higher idle for the engine to run in gear in the auto? or would this be computer controlled( i would think it is)

dammit *insert swear words* mine is putting out 14.1. out of interest are u able to get me the colours and postion on the back of the alt of the wires and were they are wired to? maybe something is amiss there in my wiring.

may have found something, found a drawing of the IAC, so seeing as my motor had been sitting in the wreakers for awhile i went outside with a hammer n screwdriver n tapped the IAC, which in turn brought the idle down a few hundred rpm, so i shall pull it off n see if it is sized or something.

Would still like to know about the alt wiring tho!

Pull it off and spray it with carby cleaner its prob just gummed up with Carbon.

well thanks for all the help guys! after all my googling and whatnot i found something bout the IAC n went down pulled it apart and it was carboned up in the almost open postion. Put it back together and idles like a dream now.
RUFF you got the problem in one there.
well hopefully this helps my fuel eco out abit
