the club

Post by ranover »

hey all

i now own my 4th land rover and wouldnt go anywhere else. when i picked up my new beast (2002 es Disco with all options) i remebered that when you buy a land rover you join an exclusive club. what i mean is when you see another landie you give a wave and if in trouble offer help as we only now our landies the best and the quirks they come with (only to make us wizards with solving probs in the 4wd world)

so as i drove my beast home from vic up through dubbo and tamworth then into gold coast i noticed that fewer people understood the club and look as if (what the F@#$ you waving at) when you acknoledge there reason to have a land rover. i felt as if this person does not have the right to drive such a remarkable car (it makes me cringe).

so have you all had this experience or am i just a little nuts (well i know that)

cheers dan

yep i have owned 3 cars in my life

#1 82 rangie
#2 74 s111 swb trcuk cab
#3 98 110 defender trayback

since the introduction of the disco, the wave has decreased, this i beleive because it opened a bigger market for landrover...

and some just dont get it... oh well
i still get alot of waves from other def owners, i have a custom front bar and cut the wings to suit so it gets a bet of attention...

keep the wave and what it stands for going i say

I dont wave at anything with a 100 inch wheelbase. Their normally too busy eating cheese and drinking red wine.

(although, if its fairly modified and i might make an exception)

I never seen any Hilux drivers waving at me I didn't know!

Hang on! There was one time, but I think it was a case of mistaken identity!

You need a sometimes option.

I usually wave if I'm out the middle of no where travelling, but not around town. I did get more waves with the old rangie too. It has decreased since I got the disco.

ROTFLMAO

I try and wave at disco's and RRC's, but usually just get a blank stare.

One disturbing trend I've noticed over the last few months is that Qld registered defenders don't wave.
Perhaps recently defected LC owners ??

SWMBO cracks up when I'm driving her Patrol and automatically wave. She reckons the Landy wave is a security thing, so you can be sure someone will stop and help when it breaks down......typical bloody Patrol driver........

i got a s3 and i get waves, but few are far between, or maybe their hand movement is a prayer, that i don't break down!
but personally i think it more of country thing, i did a trip melb to perth and return by car, everyone waves regardless, so i adopted it but, forgot to stop once in the cities, so i looked a little silly

It's a Series thing - but like someone said it's more likely 'there's one that's not broken down..'

I wave to all Rovers especially the modded or restored rigs. I hesitate at waving at later model rovers cause most of the time theirs a businees man with a bluetooth headset talkin to client or a family going shopping. But in time these rigs will get cheaper, be more frequently modified & the owner will "join the club" & wave with pride. :D
