I didn't.... Its sitting there in reverse low range.. 6.5:1 gears will hold it anywhere even though my tired old 1.3 has no compression.Highway-Star wrote: Want33's, how the hell did you get a Zook handbrake to hold in that photo! mine doesn't hold on my driveway

u r goin to laugh when I say this.Highway-Star wrote:Cheers Mate. So basically "river rocks" was the problem (to put it simply). I know this is starting to deviate, but out of interest, what tyre have you found good for this type of terrain?
MAXXIS BUCKSHOT MUDDERS (33s)
without a doubt gave me the best forward traction on the river rocks.
But they had very weak sidewalls, lateral traction was not great. But they were cheap at the time
I don't know if it had anything to do with the gearing change but I went from 37" Creepys (running at 8psi) to these 33" buckshots as a temporary tyre and they drove everything with ease (not that the creepys didnt do it easy aswell, these just did it a bit better)
Ok hijack over
Re: silverstone's
id say 50k wouldnt be too much to ask.surfseller06 wrote:Just wondering how many K's you would get out of them?? My Last few set's have been bfg muds and find it hard to go past them as I get around 60 000km and apart from a few cut up lugs they do the job. I like the look of the sports as they look like claws and wouldn't mind a change if I can expect around the same k's from them..j-top paj wrote:i have them on the jabber, what did you want to know about them?surfseller06 wrote:Do you guy's use them as a daily driver tyre?? I don't mind the look of the 117 sport tyre, has anyone run these?
i got 20k on mine and they have HEAPS of tread left.

offtopic .... where did you get the flop stickers want33'swant33s wrote:I think they grip quite well on rock, when its dry anyway, wet is another story.Highway-Star wrote: How bad are they on rocky surfaces? Will they safely hold traction when decending a reasonably steep rock slab hill?
I don't have pics on rock but here is one on sprayed concrete at 45 - 50 degrees angle.
ontopic ... seem to go really well got a zook also , BUT the only thing they have seen yet is the concrete of the shed

Simex are worth the extra $100 a tyre...If you can afford itbravo wrote:ok i am going to be getting 35's for my cruiser. I will either be getting the simex ET 35 inch or the silverstone extreme 35 inch.
Is there much difference in performance between the simex and the silverstone?
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
The Silverstones have a more open tread patten then the Simex but are softer and there more susceptible to wear and puncture, they are also not a true 35 where i think the simex more closely resemble the tyre size as nominated on the tyre side wall
But im happy i got a set.
But im happy i got a set.
i don't need no stinking quote for my sig. line!
Funny, i found the silverstones handles better better allround than the simexs that i had, just noticeably smallercloughy wrote:^^^^^yep
1"smaller, 1"narrower than the equivalent Simex, worse on fast gravel, wet asphalt, dry asphalt......................
But to some a 400 beer tickets difference is a killer

I ended up buying some 31x10.5-15's for my Sierra, so I thought I would add my initial opinion on the tyres to this thread also.
Yes road behaviour is quite poor, worst of all they take so much out of my car, staying at 100km/h is near impossible. (I might try some higher tyre pressures than what I run my radials at). Any recomendations on what people run them at in comparison to their radials?
They send some pretty big vibrations thrugh the whole car at around 20km/h. I tried some hard braking on both gravell road and damp bitumen just to get a feel for them, and you can feel them skidding on the gravel, but they pulled up great on the damp bitumen. Noise isn't too bad considering, I'd say about the same as an electric train.
They do get great amounts of traction, which as said previously can get you into a bit of trouble once wheel spin starts (I need diff locks). They do hold on to the really soft stuff, decending a loam pile and it was fine, going up was good too, untill it got too steep, then they just dig for their life.
I also found their limitations in mud, I got bogged after only 15minutes of running them. But as soon as an old rotten log was put in front of my front drivers wheel, the mud filled tyre got traction on it, and I pulled myself out. Despite being in this mud the tyres still got enough traction to move back and fourth in the mud untill evil wheel spin occured again, quite impressive actually.
This is what they look like filled with mud:
The sizing isn't too bad, not exactly a 31", but what actually is? They measure ~30.5" about the same as my other 31" tyres, so they fit no problem, and I have plenty of spares. The tread design does make the tyre appear smaller than it actually is IMO, but thats not an issue, I think thats a plus.

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
Heres a vid of some last weekend, 33" on a 4Runner. I had to use all my grunt to get up this same gully with 33" radial claws and turning in the middle of the gully was a lot harder on the claws too.
I am very impressed with these tires in the mud and on inclines.
This car has no lockers and the goop in the bottom of the gully was slippery as,

IMO they are a great offroad tire and hopefully Silverstone wont realise what a winner they are on then up the price.
