Hey guys/girls, normally I hate these "make my mind up for me" threads but this is a little more technical and I'm at a crossroads.
You may or may not know my zook has a 5 inch calmini lift (with a keaf removed from the front packs to bring the front down level), 2 inch body lift, ute chop, GTi motor, stock diff gearing and rear lockright.
Now it has come time to purchase tyres. I have series 4 transfer gears and mighty kong ready to go in to fix the gearing issue. I had been set on the 32X10.5" pedes up until 4 days ago when I broke up with the missus and now have a little less cash due to buying some needed appliances etc. But this made me think, "do I really need the 32's?".
The wording on the gears is a bit vauge saying they suit 32-33" tyres adn the pedes are a big tyre which makes this difficult. Now if I had all the tools in the world it would be on massive tyres but I don't so I'd like to keep gaurd mods down to what I can achive with a bloody big hammer. I am going to fit either sixe tyre on speedy -15 offset 15X7" rims also. Now with 235/75 maxxis buckshot mudders I get to some pretty hairy places that only one mate I know with a comp ute can follow me.
So the question remains. Should I bother with 32's? Or will I be sufficiantly impressed with the 31's?

this is mine in 32x10.5x15
the only gaurd modding i have down is 'massaged' the fire wall back a little with a hammer, i am running the original sook rims with the centres cut and flipped, if u need more info PM me

Zooks are for people that aren't afraid of angles and who have nothing to compensate for

go 32s... they are a big 32...just cut and bash and move front diff forward and you'll be sweet. or look at the 34"or 35" silverstone...apparently they only measure about a 32-33...prob cheaper too. I reckon they are better for a zook than the pede...

I want to use these tyres on the road as much as possible so the the silverstones are a no no due to being soft. I'm also not impressed with the chips and cuts my mates with a comp ute gets on his.

Why not? A bit more diff clearance & approach angle won't hurt.But this made me think, "do I really need the 32's?".

I would be inclined to run with the cheaper, softer tyre, especially under a lightweight zuk. The more a tyre bags out a pressure "x" the better, to prevent having to run even lower pressures to get the same effect but risk spinning the tyre off the rim. Also I think you'd be able to clear them fairly easily running no rear guards (tube tray) & 5" plus 2" body... And in the case that they do rub a bit, i'd prefer to nick, cut & cheaper tyres rather than the expensive ones.
Also if you do go to a bigger size of tyre, dont for get shackle reversal or no shackle reversal, you can redrill that front diff perch to centre the wheel in the well. I'd be inclined to move it as far foward as possible with a SR becasue under compression the wheel will move towards the firewall on compression.
Running a 15x7 -15mm I'd also be inclined to run the narrowest tyre possible. Or you may end up scrubbing the springs.
Gearing wise I wouldn't worry too much, its not going to be a huge difference if you drop down in size 1".
I've got 6.5's with tyres that measure 32inch exactly and the gearing is spot on for highway driving. If I had tyres that were any larger the motor would start to struggle but I have a 1.3 carby motor not a GTI so you may be able to handle a larger tyre easier. Also skinny 32's don't seem to draw as much unwanted attention as a larger tyre which I find a real big bonus

7inches of lift and 235/75r15? You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that would you? 235/75r15 fit with no lift at all and I believe in the calamini advertisement for the 5inch lift they say its the only lift kit that can fit 31's straight from the box. With an added 2inch bodylift you should very easily be able to fit a 33-34inch tyre to your suzie.

I have had a set of 32x10.5x15 with 25mm o/s F100 rims on there and It would have only needed a slight tap with a hammer on the fire wall and a slight trim on the alloy bar to have enough clearence.
Go the 32"s, but I dont think you will like the simex's, I know several people who said they dont bag out under a Zook, Its to light weight!
and I know that the silversones are a softer compound but are still a stiff tyre for a Zook!
Why not something like a Baja Claw type tread pattern,
I think my friend is running 33" maxis with the same tread pattern as the BFG BAJA CLAW but better side wall grip - protection, They bag out nicely under his Zook, He has pulled Many Big 4by's out of some very sticky situations, even pulled an explorer up a Very steep rocky hill after the exploder blew its front left hub up, .
okay so the Zook is highly modified but at the end of the day he still pulled a 1.9 tonne crippled car up a rocky hill.

I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.
Well I really do like the treapadors but they don't come in bias style in a good zook size. And I'm not concerned about the bagging too much, you just loose the clearance you gain from bigger tyres with bagging anyway. And I think with 10.5" wide they wont need a bigger footprint for grip, cause the tyres I have now pull me up really steep hills on loose dirt with rocks anyway.

Nice rig GRPABT1 suprised you still got mud flaps. Have you got any pics of the front flexed, am very interested to see how far back the wheel goes in the well with your shackle reversal. Looks as if you will definitely move the diff forward and bash the seems on the guard. I really thought the car would sit taller than it does with the 5" lift.
Deflating the tyre will not only make the footprint bigger but will grab better on different surfaces asd it moulds to the shapes under it.

Maybe not, but that's how to do it. Right now, you're miles and miles from getting a 32 in there.
the most you can move the firewall back (sensibly) is 65mm. With RUF, that will clear any tyre you'd ever want to run on a suzuki driveline. without RUF, you're stuck on about a 31, even with the firewall punched back. You're SR, making it even worse.

Hoookaay..... Really, we've been running Ruf'ed cars for years and years and the shackles catching just isn't a problem.
I think I'd take a 35" tyre and RUF over a stock front spring and a much smaller tyre all things considered... but we're all different.
The shackles don't look to be too much of a problem on this car to date...
