Dose anyone out there know if you can fit a 4.2 litre diesel cruiser motor into a RN105 dualcab hilux?
If not is there a diesel 6 that can be shoehorned in?
Yes i know i can fit a 3L diesel 4 turbo but i would preffer a 6 (I tow a work trailer everyday).
Any info would be apprecieated.
well looking at my old ladies hj60 with a 2H motor and my brothers 98 hilux, i really cant see it happening, you would need to take the radiator out completely lol
some of the chevy v8 diesels could fit though, not sure how queensland transport would like that idea though...
I have wondered about this myself.
But the simple fact is that a hilux engine bay is built for something 4 cylinders long not six.
Even fitting V8s can be a tight fit.
What would be sweet is if you could get a nice V6 diesel with twin turbos.

i wanted to do the same but it simply wont fit. i have just lowered a 3b into my hilux and it fits quite well. modified the landcruiser bellhouning to suit hilux box. will make enging mounts over next couple of weeks. probably fit turbo later.

CHEV make V6 oil burner thay had one at SALISBURY WRECKING BRIS on the floor a few months ago. Looked just like 3800 V6 GMH. Also had 4speed auto on it (R700). Big boats sometimes have two of them as main drive.
3800 GMH with MARKS BITS go in V6 CHEV oil burner should
I Emailed Brunswick Diesels (They do lots of chev diesel cruiser conv) and they said that they used to do a few hiluxs with chev diesel V6s but stopped due to reliability problems and that I shoud just fit a turbo 4.
But if anyone has more info on these V6 diesels post it up.

Thats actually a Buick engine they have but they think its a Chev the bellhousing bolt pattern gives it away. Its from a Pajero that had an interior fire. Its prob been there for 2 years now and they have never heard it run.
I would be concerned about the load on your running gear using a 'lux with high torque for towing.
Having said that, a turbo 4 would out-perform the six cylinder anyway. Have a look at the torque of a Prado diesel for example: 343 NM compared to a daggy 278 NM out of the 1HZ 4.2 six. (from memory)
As a bonus, a turbo is a cinch to fit and usually increases the resale of your vehicle.
I've seen V8s shoehorned into hiluxes. They often sell cheaply because of the type of modification. Turboed diesels though...quite different
a turbo 4 is good, but the touque and brute strengh of a 6 would overpower a turbo 4, however the overall weight of the engibe would be the main disadvantage. along with size and simplicity,
Gday, a mate had a 86 xtracab with a 4.3l Buick v6 diesel and he turbo'd it. absolutely flew. with 38s and standard diff ratios on the way to nsw jamboree about 3yrs ago he rounded us all up. He was fully loaded and we were doing about 120/130 and he past about 6 of us like we were standing still, and this was going up hill. Was running about 12/14 pound boost. Would light the tyres up of the lights in both 1st and 2nd without even trying, just let the clutch out normally and then tromp it on the roll and they would light up.
unfortunately took it off the road about 2yrs to coil and patrol diff it but never got round to doing it. Sold it not long ago for stuff all needing a rebuild.
If you can get your hands on one and then turbo it they are awsume.
