The "What's it for" game...

Post by MightyMouse »

Ok, my front bash plate is now officially stuffed - in spite of a fairly random collection of welded on re-enforcing.

Undid the bolts ( one was actually bent ) and "sproing" we aint going back on without serious sledge hammer work !

So whilst working on a new bashplate the hole in the factory one caught my attention. Try as I might I can't figure out WTF its supposed to do !

My pet theory is that its an escape hatch for the three squirrels that push my Feroza along.

No prize on offer and no suggestion to stupid ! - Surprise me.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

a. Access to the radiator drain plug so you can let the fluid drain out all over the bash plate?

b. A viewing hole to check the chassis number...

Answers;

A; As above.
B: Whatever that bit of scrap metal needed a hole for before it was recycled. (Not likely, if it's factory)
C: Whatever the previous owner wanted it there for!
D; Style Hole!

It causes you drama how?

Suggestions so far :

a. Access to the radiator drain plug so you can let the fluid drain out all over the bash plate?

b. A viewing hole to check the chassis number...

c: Whatever that bit of scrap metal needed a hole for before it was recycled. (Not likely, if it's factory)

d: Whatever the previous owner wanted it there for!

e; Style Hole!

Hmmm............

a. unless you have triple joints - not convinced
b. IIRC its not there
c. nah - its factory
d. nah - its factory
e. seek help

Why does it bug me ? Well, on bashplate MK. 2 ( an undamaged factory one ) it just happens to be right where the "scientifically designed" re-enforcing goes. Its a pita to fill in but Mk. 2 is going to be "permanent" ;)

a. I could get my hand through it -and I've checked the tightness of the drain plug through it! :)

b. the chassis number was most certainly under there on my '92 F300 - hence why I mentioned it!

Pretty sure it's mainly for access to chassis number.

It's a speed hole. Their supposed to go in your bonnet to make your car go faster, but as with a lot of things on the hatsu's, the japs stuffed it up

Bingo a winner. Murcod/AJ's right - its for access to the chassis number.

As for the radiator drain - not on mine, but its a three row heavy duty so stock you might be able to reach but.......

By the time I'm finished the chassis numbers going to be like everything else on the Feroza - F^%&%$ hard to get at :)

Speed hole........

Dam You got *that* much power?? Due to strict Import laws regarding wildlife NZ assembled Feroza's wernt allowed to be powered by squirrels, we got gerbils instead, and as we all know gerbils lack the low down grunt of squirrels. :D

and i still reckon the hole is there is disperse the air through the engine bay rather than under the Fez thus causing significant downdraft and improving handling at speeds over 180kph ..

Here's a shot of Larry, Curly and Mo - my Feroza "powerplant". They insist the hole is an escape hatch.

As you can see their slacking off on the job as usual. Was thinking of using Gerbils - but the boys union insists on a substantial retrenchment package.

Here's a pic of their union rep.

Haven't given up on Hamster power either, they seem dumb enough to take over the job, but apparently they wont work for peanuts.
