I don’t think there is any correct answer to the vote in system not everyone is going to be happy.

My opinion is that we need more nominations and more people wanting to enter, I'm sure there are a hell of allot of trucks out there more than capable of upsetting the season normals that drive there rigs every weekend that are in the True spirit of tuff truck.

tuff truck is a year long journey and not a cheep one at that it costs us around 2-3 thousand to get there each year not to mention any new bits to help get through the weekend. as every competitor knows its a big effort but fun.

Maybe Tuff truck needs to drop the entry fee open it up to everyone and show some incentive for potential competitor to get the entry’s in, you still get all the threads and whistles like the seat covers and shirts and caps and in addition you receiving $100-300 dollars cash if you get voted into the top 40 or some form of sponsors package that recognizes your sponsors, the sponsors that help the competitor make it happen for tuff truck.(ie the wife and kids or your local 4x4 shop)

There is a definite division in the trucks at tuff truck, There is the shop trucks and the back yard trucks, I know tuff truck is just one truck standing at the end of the weekend but I think it needs to be divided up into the two categories giving entry level guys a chance to get a trophy or at least give the entry level guys a hope of getting close to a trophy’s chance. I think this would get the public more excited and more involved in this voting and lack of numbers problem at tuff truck.

Tuff truck is built on a spectacle its there for the spectators there to generate money for the next year to happen and the competition is just a draw card for the spectators.
Without one you don’t have the other.

Just my thoughts

Chad

(There is still no advertising in the central west region!. A huge number of potential spectators not knowing Tuff truck exists)

hello all,

my name is mark mitchell,

i am the one who has sold all these votes.

firstly let me say that i am sorry if i have caused any trouble for the tuff truck team, you guys work so hard and do such a great job each year with this world class event.

i was rung today & told about all the comotion that was being thrown back & forwards on this site in relation to the selling of these votes - well here are some facts, their was 19 tuff truck competitor teams who purchased 8700 votes between them and in doing so raised $3,285, what an awesome result - congratulations to all 19 teams.

secondly, let me say to any 4x4 member of the public or competitor that may be upset with my methods of raising money for this great charity, that i only had the best and most honourable intentions at all times in mind & meant no harm to anyone concerned.

let me straighten up a few more facts, i personally paid $2,500 for a large quantity of magazines, and have been walking the streets for the last few weeks trying to sell them individually for $10 a mag to people who may not ever of seen our wonderful sport & every dollar is recorded with date, $ amount, name & address, i then type all details onto a spreadsheet and personally drive out to hospital go through all the details and then the westmead childrens hospital send a tax deductible receipt to each and every person who helps with this great cause - fact - i dropt of many cheques today totalling $5,624 - a little over half my goal, thanks to everyone who has helped so far!

in relation to the 3 separate guys and their comments being made that i scammed votes, have taken people on a ride and or caused a smoke screen for voting - well all i have to say to you guys is - please get your facts straight before taking a shot at me!

i would also like to commend SAM K for his admirable, honourable & mature response to the fact that he missed out on a certain position in this years event - its clear to see why he is so well respected!

if anyone is still unclear about any facts in relation to this voting catastropy or has any uncertanty as to my current motives please feel free to call me on 0414 448 549.

i look forward to meeting & competing with you all at tuff truck.

let me leave you with a comment that my mother told me before she passed away,

YOU CAN TELL THE SIZE OF A MAN, BY THE SIZE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT BOTHER HIM.

kind regards

mark mitchell

Mark, may I suggest putting a donation bucket at the entry gate as people like myself would happily drop $10 or so in to help out causes like this (but are usually too busy / lazy to donate at any other time). If every second car that enters drops a dollar or two, you could add a decent amount to the money the votes made.

Hi Nelso,

Thanks for your positive feedback & great idea!

I have organised 10 westmead childrens hospital donation tins, these hopefully will be carried around & left in display area's.

i also have 50 bandaged bears for sale at $3 each.

also about 580 $5 off entry vouchers,

over 300 dirt comp magazines for sale at $10 each,

i will be trying to sell all of this prior, during & after the tuff truck event.

any help would greatly be appreciated.

regards

Hi Mark
Well what a can of worms has been opened. I've never thought that ur motives were in question and always beleavied that the only ones to gain were the westmead hospital. While ur heart is in the right place, the method used is open for abuse. I'm guessing the reaction seen on this forum wasn't antipated and perhapes the whole thing would have been done differently in hind sight. Mis information is always the key and it seems that there were more votes made availible than first advertised in the competitor updates or on the tt webpage.

I made a smaller donation then most teams it would seem. but i never found mark a drama to deal with.
good idea, good cause in my opinion.

i think it comes back to an earlier statement. if you wanted into TTC you make sure you get there.
I wanted in. now i just need to finish off my truck.

Mate, I'm not going to continue to be drawn into this over and over..

I've just had another call from Mark and explained to him the implication of his words regarding the voting.. that's all I'm leaving it to..

I've said what I believe in relation to the matter, that's my opinion, I'm entitled to it, this is a public forum and you're entitled to yours and everyone else is entitled to their own, end of story. That's the idea of 'discussion boards'. Mark seems to recall some different words said, we don't agree, shit happens.

This is the last post I'll have in this thread regarding the subject of voting.. Happy to discuss in person with you or Mark, and I've told him the same.

Oh the internet dramas!! Everyone's who's there is gonna have a top weekend regardless, as we do every year.

Why would Pete be only 1 of 2 that could win :?
As far as i see he is in a very low tested truck with gear he hasnt used before and at the end of the day if it is any year that an outsider can jump in and win it its this year.

All the playing field is sortove even to a degree for once so it should be a really great battle.

I believe that TTC should also have 2-5 "Wild Card " Allowances for entrants that may not get voted in or entrants that excelled in another 4x4 event throughout the previous year!!

The sponsors could decide one or more of these..

Competitors could also decide on a wildcard entrant.. ie.. quick vote for who you think deserves to be in, most votes gets in.. quick & easy..

Also I think you should allow any previous winner of TTC be granted instant entry if they desire..

I am very dissappointed that Tuff Truck 2008 will not have Glenn Dobbin in it.

Glenn's Truck is definately a great Icon for the sport.... & will be sadly missed this year by a lot of people...

Considering that his Truck is undisputedly one of the countries Tuffest Trucks... I really think from a spectators point of view that they will not be impressed... They want to see his truck there as much as they'd like to see him roll... "again"..

Once again Good Luck to all Teams who have been selected...

I do not for one second fail to recognise Glen's contribution to our sport. He has provided a lot of the highlights of Tuff Truck over the years, (who could forget his 2001 All Terrain drive in the dark, and his run through the mud in 2006) and deserves his reputation as good bloke, good driver and amazing engineer.
But the public had every opportunity to vote for the "iconic" 45 series, and did not. If the spectators are not impressed, maybe next year they will take the opportunity to vote a little more seriously.

If it were only the spectators voting then Glen would be compeating. This is why the voting system doesnt work the way it is ment to in my opinion.

It should be just tuff luck that they didn't buy enough mag's to get in the 40 places are full this is no secret.

icon or not the 4 that aren't in are well deserving at any point to compete at tuff truck not just one or two that can pull strings and lobby for change at such a late date!

Alot of exciting changes this year should be a good spectical! I can't wait to catch up with everyone and have a chat and a beer!

I don't think that this is a lobby to change anything at the last minute. well what I have said anyway.. Even if TTC rang Glenn 2day & asked him to compete, I am sure he would decline..

To have to have competitors vote for themselves or buy votes is a clear indication that the voting system is flawed..

I am certain that if i had to be voted in, unless spectators or others voted for me I probably would be part of that last 4 that missed out. As I have been way to busy to worry about voting. As is Sam Keck & Glenn.. We all don't have the time or luxury of keeping tabs of the voting tally..

As Pagie says. It is alway easy to crtiticise but unless you have a potential resolution then keep it to yourself.
I think that the couple of options that I noted earlier may help. But who knows what will happen next year.

And if you think that there are no major flaws with the current voting system, then you must be a part owner in a particular 4wd Magazine.!!

This sport is expensive enough without having to buy ur way into an event.

Please remember that this is my opinion only & I am not directing any argument or comments at any individual.

Its not Australian Idle... We do not have the following of tens or hundreds of thousands of people..
We struggle to get 3-5000 spectators & I'm sure more than half of them go to TTC as a last minute decision. I know many people that won't pre pay for tickets just incase they can't make it..

It would be interesting to know how many of the spectators that actually go to TTC are subscribers or readers of 4wd Monthly...?

I havent read a copy of it for well over 2 years.... and coming from an enthusiast of the sport this is probably a bad thing but I doubt if i'm the only one..

I am going to tuff truck for my third time this year and really looking forward to it again however to have 4 cars miss out is a bit stupid over some voting system that personally does not work. I think a survey/questionnaire as you enter the gate to ask the people who attend the event who actually voted would show that most can’t be bothered (I know I havn’t each year Ive come). I think an online voting system may work a lot better eg. As you purchase you pre-paid tickets you get 3 votes to give to who-ever you want.
Really is an extra 4 trucks going to make that much of a difference with a lot of these new comers there are going to be breakages and I remember 1 last year didn’t make it past the show and shine! If I was on the reserve list I wouldn’t go to the extra cost of transporting my vehicle to the site just in case someone else breaks down. Then the only people really that miss out are the spectators.
