G'Day guys
My problem is when I am coming down in ( low 4 ) wet greasy hills I still need to brake occasionally and with that I am finding myself sideways which is not good for me or the wife
What I need to know is what is the best way to slow the beast down.
Should I replace diffs or T/case gears?

If at first you don't succeed, go faster.
lower transfer gears will give you more bang for your $$ & wont effect highway driving. YOU can tweak it a bit more with diff gear changes , but bear in mind there are 2 diffs, so basically doubles the cost.
2.85 gears are available for the 3.ol pajs, & 3.14 for the later vehicles.
I have an NL auto with 3.14 gears, so with auto tranny i get about 40:1 which is a far improvement over the 25:1 stock ratio, but given that its still only equivalent to my old series 2 Landrover, then its nothing to write home about. If you have a manual vehicle you will fare better.
BTW I still have to use the brakes sometimes in 4wd low!

I've got 4.875 diffs; if you've got 4.625 (?) you'd work out at about 52:1.
