Post by Jason V »

Hey guys, i have just put in a 3" lift kit in my 80 but when ever i come off the accelerator in 4th or 5th gear anything about 60ks it makes a weird grinding noise sounds like its comming from right under the gear shifter?

apparently a part time kit eliminates this. I too have it with my 6" lift. My mate had it with his 4" lift, part time fixed it for him.

I assume its increased backlash or sometihng :?

It is the angle of the front unis tat do it, check it out and ou will see the front shaft is straight at the diff and bent on the uni at the gearbox...try dropping the crossmember 10mm and packing it might fix it might not....the best fix is a d/cardon shaft from a rear hilux dualcab...they fit once shortened. or as above with the part timer

It could also just be the alignment of the unis on the front shaft. I had similar noise, I marked both sides of the slip yolk then pulled one end of the front shaft out and rotated it 90degrees and it definitely improved it with no $$ spent ;)
