PERTH- Newbie Trip Sunday 13th

Post by alien »

I cant remember who, but there were 2 or 3 guys in the suzuki section who were keen on coming out on a newbie day in mundaring/sawyers area...

Well im heading out Sunday 13th - meet 10am sharp at Caltex at the bottom of Greenmount hill.

Bring basic recovery gear, compresor, UHF etc...

Like i said though - its a newbie day - im re-learning to drive my zuk and we will all be taking it easy in the effort to come home dirty, but undamaged =)

Alien and Nicbeer,

You guys have no idea of how much i would love to come along for this one. But got 2 small problems.

1. Dont have the Zuk yet but still waiting for one to come up.(Thinking Pos:D)

But i am sure a mate and i could make our way down but thats the other problem he has a bloody Pajero.

So unless you are willing to let us come along in a Pajero i don't think ill be able to come along. (makes Cameron and Wade sad )   !!! :bad-words: :bad-words: !!

But if you willing to let us come along man i am so in and so is wade.

Hey i'll be up in perth on that sunday! Not with the zook tho with my 80series. How far out of town is the mundaring sawyers area and what type of terrain are we looking at? I'd be pretty interested for a little day trip to pass some time

its gravel/mud/rock - mundaring is about 20-30mins from the city... about 10min from greenmount hill.

ok scott wade and i are in for sure we got nothing else better to do.(LOL)

but since we live in york we were wondering if we could meet with you guys in mundaring or sawyers to save us coming all the way down greenmount then just back up again? if its to hard doesn't bother us just thought if we waited at HJ's in mundaring or caltex in sawyers for you guys then go from there would be easier for us.

but besides that we are all in we got the recovery gear ready and waiting and caint wait to go!!!

also there are signs on flynn road prohibating 4WDing adn there is also a big white steel gate blockign the end of the road but thats if we were in the right spot and if it was flynn road since we came from the back but wades uncles told us that it was flynn road.

I'll try and navigate my way to the caltex at greenmount hill (not going to be to hard to find? I am from Albany  ) I know someone thats just bought an 80series and may want to give it a try out bush so could be 2 of us cruisers. I won't be able to read the forum after today so hope this all goes ahead!

yeah its definitely going ahead... if you're not too keen to meet at the bottom of greenmount, we're on UHF ch13 - shouldnt be too hard to find..

i reckon if we enter from mundaring weir rd and head west from there we'd be right (atkins rd is nearest side road) - i was out there the other week and there were no signs.

The sign at flynn rd wasnt "no 4wding" from memory, it was "western power only" or something... but i didnt see it =)

LOL i can go on flynn road. one advantage of having a dad who works for western power.

also we dont have the UHF in the Pajero yet but we got one of those 2 handsets that should work ok for when we are out there i surpose but yeah i dont think it would be hard to see a heap of pimped out 4WD's and not think its you guys.

so if we just wait at mundaring weir road at say 10:15, 10:30am should be ok adn just wait for you guys there? but we will get there around 10 just tpo be sure.

Also any other things that we should bring along? Like lunch or anything?

Besides that i think we are all sorted.

Yeah we went along the powerlines last time we went 4WDing and it was good fun. Luckly dads getting me the map of all the lines and tracks in that area so ill be in the know but i will not have it till after the our trip but owell.

Yeah we will just wait on Weir Rd adn have the UHF handset ready adn waiting for some chatter adn we should know its you guys when the Zuks come through.

And yeah we will be sure to take plenty of water in the tank and some snacks in the back.

So yeah we will be waiting at around 10am on wier road for you guys to come through and we will be listening to the UHF for some chatter to give us an idea when your coming so we can be ready to go.

Cant wait for it its going to be cool. See you guys there.

If I get off my lazy ass and finish the remaining 4 wires in the Zook and it starts, I'll come up for test run. I've done the lines a few times so can show you the few spots along the track. Basically once you get on there, it's just one long road with different obstacles along the way, no need for GPS or a guide ;) Just keep going straight!!

This'll be a test run for me too so I'll be more than happy to potter along and not break any land speed records.

Kitika, I'm Ex-Albany and you'll have no problems finding it. Looks just like the one on York St only bigger ;) Just go along Roe Hwy till you get to Great eastern Hwy. Go towards the big hill and it's just 500m up the road on the left. Red Rooter there too for pre-fourby munchies :)

spewin guys, i wont be here  , went up there yesterday and was good fun, bent my crossmember on the left hand side so now the tyre hits it. if you want an easier entry piont keep going to sawyers valley and turn right opposite the servo, the road is cole rd and keep following that untill you reach the powerlines then turn left. have fun :D

Yeah thats we went last time we went 4WDing and it called Poisons Lease Rd we should know we got lost out there in middle of nowhere and luckly some dude came from nowhere and showed us the way out off firewood rd was good fun none the less that dudes little 3.0D tray back Lux was really good as it was stock.

But yeah we went from Posion Lease rd towards mundaring as sarah (wades girlfriend) didnt want to tackle the harder stuff which was fair enough.

Also there will be 4 of us on Sunday just got oen more coming along.

Also great pics you got there 83jack cant wait to get my Zuk will be awsome to prove some mats wrong!!!!

I think you'll find that the sidetracks are actually classified as catchment area and therefore a no go zone now... Apparently you cant even play in the mud puddles at the end of the lines. I've never really ventured off the "beaten" track except to get lost ;)

As a side note, Perth4x4 are doing a track adoption of the powerlines that day, setting out track markers, info bays etc. So no doubt they'll be able to tell you where everything is.
