drilling a viscus fan off a rover
Hi there, just wondering if someone might be able to tell me where i drill the viscus to make it permanently engaged. I have 3 hours to be up and running or miss the run.
Cheers guys
Oh and because it is a rover one you don't have a filler plug or a spanner slot on the shaft.
Do you just drill straight through the face and all the inner plates???

If you just want to get it locked up for today and then worry about replacing it later, it's probably just a case of drilling a hole anywhere that goes between the two parts, tapping the hole, and driving a bolt in.
If on the other hand you want to repair it later, you'll need to do it more carefully.
Bear in mind you wouldn't want to hit deep water with your viscous coupling locked up, the fan will probably pull itself straight through your radiator.

This is not legal advice.
so your saying straight through the face locking the plates in-side?? Maybe a teck screw or 3.chimpboy wrote:If you just want to get it locked up for today and then worry about replacing it later, it's probably just a case of drilling a hole anywhere that goes between the two parts, tapping the hole, and driving a bolt in.

I'm planning on a re-conditioned one next week as mine is stuffed due to a shot bearing and bad leak. I hope they don't want a trade in.
Hmmmm yep but no wire and on a sunday thats not good, spose bunnings wopuld have some. Why??RUFF wrote:Do you have a welder?
So far i drilled a hole, attached a grease nipple and think i have filled it with grease, it has tightened up a lot but not yet locking, should it lock or just be tight, grease nipple doesn't fit great so will remove it and plug the hole, maybe with a rivet and some liquid steel??
God of Magnificant Ideas!
Hay, the grease seems to have worked, i thought about locking it with a teck screw but once you have done that there is no return, so did the grease thing and if it gives me trouble will remove rivet and replace with teck screw. But so far so good, its obviously continuous so bit noisy but will do for now until i pick up new one or re-co or 2nd hand.
Cheers guys
