hilux sr5 2.8D transfer case

Post by Rory »

hey guys, as im in need of a new gearbox and transfer i have found one out of a 91 sr5 2.8D, it has an elec shit with a button to engage 4x4. My question is, am i able to pull this assembly off, and put my normal shifter from my 89 22r transfer. Also would this be the same gear driven transfer? or is it a chain driven.

Thanks Rory

It will be a chain drive transfer and you can not use your set up to convert it.

Cheers RUFF,
as it is outta the car i cannot see the plates so im unsure weather the box will still be a g52. Im guessing it should be tho and it looks the same as my box. anyone able to clear that up?

Thanks

Yeah the 91 sr5 box should still be a g52.

If you swap it in, can you tell me how it goes? A G52 box with a chain drive t/f case apparently has a different rear tailhousing to a G52 box with a geardrive case. It may be that the chain transfer case you swap in does not line up with your 89 22r crossmember, or it could all be fine.

rory stay with ya gear driven m8, ive herd and seen so many dramas with that electronic rubbish on them cases, like the actuators playing up and what not, and next thing ya no you cant get into 4wd.. biggest pain when ya on a track where ya need 4wd, then ya stuck. Mate in his 95, sr5 extra cab ifs ahad all the dramas in the world. 50% of the time he didnt even have the option of 4wd. Then it got written off so no probs no more :D Cheers.
