Rudes - did you wet the bed again - it's too early for you....
Cool - then if that's all we test we have a Scanas.
Some 9,500's would be good.

Used the winch this weekend to remove a tree of the track that was too big to cut with the chainsaw.NavRun wrote:Hobzee, Johnno has the Ironman 12,000lb, in fact he is giving it a work out again this weekend.

Went out to a snatch block off the the right and back to the tree and winched it off the track and up the mound on the side. Pretty happy with how it worked. (One of the guys watching thought the tyre was about to be pulled of the rim from the side ways force... lol)

Lets have a winch off in my front paddock.
Tiger vs Ironman vs anything else chinese...
The winner goes through to round 2 and up against a warn.
That winner goes through to round 3 up against a comp winch.
Shall we set a date? Hmm next weekend is Navrun after dark - what about the Sunday after at 12 hi-noon April 20th.
What we need is some volunteers with said winches.
Will be testing speed and strength and a panel of experts (need them too) to comment on build quality, finish, friendliness to fit and apparent water resistance.
Volunteers, panel and witnesses please ... Rudi will get the hangman's noose ready in the tree.

i've got one of the first tiger 12000 lb i brought of tiger nearly 3 years ago but i never judged it to be any better or worse than any other winch
(I've only had to use it twice)
Free feed and i remember where you are hobzee
to make this a fair comparison
shouldnt current 07/08 model winches be used on both cars
with the vehicles weighing a similar amount ?
not a 3yr old winch against a current winch .
that would be like comparing my warn xp9.5ti to an aldi winch

where the hell is Tiger then, why don't they come to the party as the companies representative- (They started it now we want to finish it).

Hello Mr Tigerz11 - above is the first reference in this thread to Ironman - that was you. Agreed - you defended a comment about a reference to cheap chinese winches made by someone else (happy with that) but then you followed through by dropping names and false accusations. To succeed you need to prove how good you are and not prove how bad your opposition is.tigerz11 wrote:in the fast 5 years of selling this winch,,we have sold over 1000 of them

Yes Lockee I am working on the voltage thing. Was thinking of some fresh batteries. Vehicle weight wont matter if winches hooked together. First to the hook is fastest. But it's not all about speed.
I'll happily throw my Ironman 9500 into the test pool, cept you are all in teh wrong state, far too far south.
That said, if you can make the test repeatable, I'll do it and post results.
I do know it drags my cruiser with all 4 wheels locked.
It wont drag the cruiser and a disco. I snapped my synthetic winch rope testing that idea last weekend, although I think that's a fairlead angle issue (too sharp a bend). THe motoe didn't seem to be near stalling though.

If your product is out done, wear it on the chin and get something better in. All thats happening is a school yard fight. trying to set the fight that you know will not happen.
Gujohnno i see your plugging your gear a fair bit on outers, but quick to bag out other people.
I can't comment on this as i run a 9000lb warn.
Correct me if i'm wrong but hobzee and Gujohnno run this store??- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-IRONMAN-4WD- ... dZViewItem

LWB patrol's are where its at!
A winchoff would be a good idea for comparison. But really comparing a 12000lb Tigerz with plasma that costs $725 with a 12000lb Warn that with plasma would be over $2500 really isnt apples with apples. Even a similarly equipped 9000lb Warn would be worth around $2000. Anyone expecting to get the same or similar performance from two items with one costing about 3 - 4 times the other is kidding themselves. If you are heavy into 4 wheeling or comps then the Warn would be first choice but for those like me who would only use one every now and again ones like the Tigerz are a more affordable way of having some fun.

For an equal winch test, i reckon you would need the following:
- Use ONE test vehicle only, this removes any issues with vehicle weight/tyres/motor/charging system etc
(if you get 2-3 people doing it, it will only take 10min to swap over a winch)
- Have a fresh set of batteries for each winch, this will stop any complaints about having to use "used" batteries, and it will mean that the more efficient winch will have better battery life through all of the tests.
- Have the hand throttle set at the same RPM for each winch and each test
- Do a speed test on a sloping hill, with the truck loaded up. Maybe use a tray-back ute loaded with hey/sand bags/dirt/bricks or even hook a loaded trailer onto it. (Put some heavy arse shit on it to make the winch's work)
- The only thing i can think of for the outright pulling power test would be to find a big, steep, nasty hill climb. If this is too easy, hook up a loaded trailer or load the ute tray up.
Just remember that if you are going to do a comparitive "test", it all needs to be uniform. I know you're not all playing for sheep stations, but if you dont make it all fair and even, there's no point in doing it in the first place.
Also, as Hobzee said, i think that there is more genuine interest in this than there is just people wanting to bag out on a product. Tigerz11, if you reckon your winch is a good product, and you feel that there are OL forum members that might be interested in buying your product - dont be scared to come out and have a crack and show us.
If people see your product, like how it performs (even for a weekend "hack" 4wder), and its priced right - the people will come.
Peace out

It's easy to have the same winch test repeated. Just use the same batteries and you can leave the winches on thier own vehicles. Just have them static and pull something else.

Sort of, but i dont agree 100%. Then you would have to take into concideration things like different electrical cabling, different charging systems (alternators), winch pulling height (whether one is higher or lower than the other), and if the winching vehicle isnt anchored then suspension/tyres/vehicle weight have to be looked at.
