X9 Superwinch motors
Just wondering if anyone knows about putting bigger motors on these?
Standard is 4.2 hp. Wouldn't mind a 6.........

I'm pretty sure all Superwinch motors are the same mounting patern as Warn etc. I thiunk Ramsey is the only one that is that is different. The very earli Warns had a key shaft but they all now have a spline shaft and the replacement Superduty motors that fit onto Warn also fit Superwinch.

If it can be done, replacing the motor with a Warn unit would be a good idea as the standard X9 dsign is rubbish, eg., the armature plate is some sort of plastic material that melts allowing the brushes to lose contact with the armature, and also crud gets in to the motor way too easily.
I would like to see how the motor can be replaced, and what with.... and what was the outcome before investing more $ss in an X9 unit

Superduty spec the same motor for all Superwinch, Warn and Premier winches.

I have both 7.8 24v Superduty and also 6hp Warn (12v with 24v)motors and run winchever suits what I am doing. ie Warn faster but higher stressed so don't use for real tough wet weather comps. Superduty for long hard winching as they run a lot cooler than the Warn. These motors have identical mounting and the Superduty is the replacement for Superwinch as well. Sowhy don't the Warn motors fit Superwinch?

OK in case anyones interested, I'll will test a Warn 6hp motor in the X9 this weekend, to see if it will fit.
BTW, the replacement 4.6 hp X9 motor is just under 800 from Toyota in Hobart, another reason not to own a yota...or an X9 winch - but they do have a really big gearbox - so they say

....yippee the Warn 6hp motor fits the X9 no problems at all - I have the photos to prove it.......so, this is a great up-grade option ....much better value than replacing the original motor.....which costs far more than that and is no where near as good -priovided you can accommodate the extra length (30mm or so).
So, Hobzee, you can also advertise Warn 6 hps for X9 replacements too:)
The Warn 6hp pulls like a train, did not even get hot pulling over 2 tonnes dead weight 14m up a one in three slope - totally constant, no groaning or moaning, just a lttle warming in the gearbox end. I think the x9 with Warn 6hp would do the same albeit a little slower cause it appears to be lower geared, and should be up to it given the main shaft is the same dia, and the gerbox is even bigger than the Warn.

dont know why but you guys dont have a idea superwinch at ingelburn sold me one x9 second hand with metal parts no plastic at all as pulled down old one had no crud in it either so whoever said that must play to much second hand was only $60 new latest model was $450 so save some money and call them i have used second hand one for about 4hours in heavy mud and rocks with no probs so check it out

Not sure where you'd get a second hand X9 motor from and how reliable it would be.
These units don't come up for sale very often - which is a vote in their favour. But, the early motor is weak, not in power per se, but in design, and it's not waterporoofed very well at all.
I guess most X9's are mainly fitted for show or as part of run out Yota specials and just don't get used enough to cause melt downs, or if they do, some folk must be shelling out heaps to fix them with new motors...especially in rip off Co-Op Toyota country here in Hobart!!!
