Sorry Giacomo, I can't think of anything low enough to get wet in 200mm of water and stop the engine. :?

The way it will restart reasonably soon suggests it's water splashing on something electrical, which dries quickly.

Have you got all your splash trays/guards on place? I can only think the tyres are throwing water up somewhere?

mine was stutering after going thru small puddles. it would stutter and die, then not go. leave it for a bit and she would be fine. i changed all my leads and now its sweet. i think it was the coil lead that was the main prob but i decided to change them all anyway.

its amazing where water gets after a small puddle.

thank you all,
for Wacko : it is exactly what it succeeds me. but exists the possibility to read to the codes error? where the connector for the diagnosis is placed ?

My Pajero has two steel plates under the front of the vehicle (also called "bash plates" - but I have "splash" on the brain  ) and rubber sheets inside the wheel wells, between the suspension and the engine bay. I've never tried 4wding without mine, so I don't know how much difference they make to keeping water out of the engine.

Have pulled the bash plates off underneath my 3.0L paj to do some major service and have driven through creek crossings without the bash plates (yet to put them back on) and have had no problems with stalling. I would suggest you have an electrical fault somewhere that is caused by water over a connection. Have you checked if it is the fuel pump shorting out??

sorry, i dont quite understand? if you are asking if the error codes will tell you the problem? im not sure if they do or not. mine has a problem with the computer and doesnt talk between the diagnostic machine, so i dont bother getting the codes read. it was such an intermittant problem i just started with the plugs and havent had a problem since. they just didnt seem to seal very well so when water got on them, even the smallest splash, it started acting up.

hope that helps.

Try spraying silicon around all the plug leads then drive through the same piece of water......

The error code reader thing won't tell you why you have an intermittent problem.

my 3.0 v6 had same problem.
after changing all the ignition leads the coil ended up cracking and the car stopped, so just replace the leads and then silicone up all the ends so water doesnt run down the leads.

Hi Raurrie
how I can control if I have a short circuit on the fuel pump?

giacomo, check your 'crank angle sensor' and its connections, and 'cam angle sensor' connections if it has got one

iv been chasing electrical problems with my paj for the last 5 months. Tried computers x4, efi relays x 2, found a short in the loom, replaced the coil and then finally ended up being the crank angle sensor and the distributor. $1000 later including towing x 4 and 5 months of annoyance, i now know that the ignition system is pretty much all brand new.

the problem was intermittent, it would run perfectly but then all of sudden just die on the spot with no warning.

just thought id add as this is something iv been dealing with for the last few months and know exactly how annoying it can be.
