which V8 for GU ?
which V8 for GU ?
I know that swapping a V( into a patrol isnt a new thing for you guys, but for us in little Denmark, it's not something you see every day.
So with your experience what would you recomend ?
Purely comp work (Okay maybe a trip into town just to show of)
Has to be reliable as parts arent available on every corner.
Must be light.
Has to have enough power in stock form. (reliabillity sp?)o
What auto box to throw behind ?

GQ 2.8TD. OME. 35 BFG. Fact. Rear Locker on steroids. Air Locker front. Gearmaster Reduction. 6HP Warn 8274.
i believe this has been covered a few times, but if the parts are within your price range a later model general motors ls1 engine will do the trick nicely or if you can afford it an ls2 will be even better
marks adaptors or dellow auto make the kits to fit them in so check them out to

what motor do you currently have in your GU now?
would you not be better off ging the turbo option, as i guess you have alot of petrol motors over there so parts wouldnt be a problem,
what cars in Denmark do you have with v8's in them, there may be a conversion that would suityou due to parts avaliability,

I know of 1 Lexus v8 in a gq here in Denmark, and i think it's a little gutless ...
What about transmission ? If we go the LS1 route will the original auto hold up ? or do we need to beef it up ? if so with what ?
So many questions![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

the orig auto is fairly strong, i think a trans 700 also fits in but id stick with the std one maybe fit a manualised kit to it if you want, theres a few guys running autos in comp rigs down here that would easily pull more power then what the ls motors would

Unfortunatly we dont have V8 cars on every street corner, so finding a suitable one isnt very easy ....
It would be "easy" to take something you guys use down under, because dellows and marks make adaptors for em...
Now im gonna sit down and watch the 2007 Outback DVD for inspiration.
But thanks for the input so far![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Waste of a Q45. MQs are now too old to bother modifying, and GQs are now too cheap to even look at an MQ imho.gcalmer wrote:sorry to hi jack,
it's a similar question, has anyone replaced the standard L28 in an MQ shorty with a Q45 V8 from the nissan infinity?
after the weekend i think the L28 needs to be retired to boat anchoring duties...
On the Danish question... i think that realistically you'd want to look at a US V8; the USA is not far over the ocean and at least with one of those you will be able to order parts and upgrades off the shelf and get them shipped fast.
So LS1 or LS2 is the go imho. LS2 is used in the Saab 9-7X, too, so there might be some locally delivered.
This is not legal advice.

I've done one into my GQ and the biggest thing you would want to check is the width of the chassis rails in the engine bay. It is a wide motor and is a tight fit for manifolds. If you get a GQ auto then it bolts together. (which is what I'm running)
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
