2.5 or 3 inch exhaust on N/A td42

Post by Tomo_89 »

Looking at getting a new Exhaust my N/A patrol.. was thinking of going 3 inch as i would like to turbo it in the future. Would this be to big for an N/A 4.2? I figured that a 3 inch pipe bent system wouldn't be much different to a 2.5 inch mandrel system which seem to work fine on the N/As. any info would be much apreciated.
cheers

I have asked this my self about my mq and the answer i have gotton was 3 inch is an overkill with no turbo on a deisel and isint enough back pressure, one of the guys on the forum did a 2.5 system with extractors in his 4.2 and said it worked great the post is in the bible i think mate
hope it helps

I think on a TD42, if your thinking about turboing it in the near future - go he 3". The only issue you will have is obviously a drop in low end grunt, and worst - too much noise.

If you desing the system right, you can make it modular, so that you can add/remove mufflers as you see fit. I'd probably run two mufflers on an N/A TD42 (1xdouble or triple pass, 1xgood resonator).

On the other hand, if you're not planning to do the turbo for a year or so, same yourself some hassle and $$$ and just go a 2.5.
