Skipping Bum

Every time i go round a corner or over some bumps in the road it feels like the ass end of my 90 hilux dual cab is kind of skipping/sliding round the corner.... not at all a nice feeling when you dont expect it and you hit a corner at 110k.... any ideas????



Also im looking at doing an engine transplant in the future and i am looking at options for what avenue to go down.

after much thought i have decided i want to stick with a diesel engine, dont know why i just love the torqe on offer and the on road feel of a deisel

might have something to do with u hitting corners at 110k in a 4B. the rear leafs on the hiluxs are very stiff so maybe just feels like u r skidding.

What Tyres? What kinda Corner? How much feeling of skid?

Even taking a gentle corner in my folks VX Berlina at 110k's can get that feeling of a bit of rear end drift, and it has an LSD, IRS and Gas lift shocks...


So id imagine your lux with rear leaves, not much weight in the bum, higher centre of gravity, and offroad tyres (?) would be looking to slide its ass out at 110k's...

So i guess slowing down, or dumping it and fitting low profile tyres would be about the only way to stop it sliding at 110k's =]

Or just buy one of those porsche kinda toorak tractors... they come in deisel too

check all the bushes and bolts in the rear suspension. if the bushes are worn the axle can slop around a bit making the rear 'steer' a bit in corners, doesn't feel nice.

just turbo up the 2.8, a lot cheaper than an engine swap if the 2.8 is in decent nick. put a set of big end bearings through it, the sump probably has to come off to fit the turbo oil drain anyway.

If the rear springs are real stiff, and you don't need tons of load capacity, take out a leaf or two, and fit softer, non-gas charged shocks...

If you bought it secand hand it might have an auto locker in the rear
