Caster bushes

Post by PCRman »

Can any one explain how caster bushes correct caster. The bush has an eccentric crush tube right, and it goes in the rear of the lower control arm (at least on my vit). The only adjustment that I can see is to have the off center tube either up or down to tilt the control arm out of the horizontal plane. Is this right? How does the front to back tilt on the control arm change caster? :?

Cant find anything on the web explaining how they change the geometry

You almost have it but the bush doesn't go top or bottom. It goes in or out (9 or 3 o'clock).
By moving the back of the arm in(toward centre of car) it pulls the bottom of the hub backwards which decreases caster.
By moving the back of the arm out it pushes the bottom of the hub forwards which increases caster.

Cheers, that clears up my confusion.

I had it in my head that the bolt runs across the car not along it. 5 minutes on the ground under the zook with a contemplative expression on my face thinking about your reply has helped.

Also my caster values are;
left +0.91 degrees
right +1.20 degrees

These values are post strut mount flip which halved the values from what they were previously.

How do they look now?

I dunno jack about Vitara's, sorry.
All I can suggest is you go get a wheel alignment and you'll know exactly whats going on.
