OME or TOUGH DOGS?

Post by sp1086 »

Ok its time to start up a friendly agument.

I want to konw which you would choose.

Old Man Emu

or

Tough Dogs

I have this problem that I have destroyed my OME's and are thinking of turning to some Tough Dogs for my front struts. Both offer a 2 Year Warrenty both offer 40mm Extra length.

Vehicle is a Suzuki SWB Vitara. as seen below.

Had Tough Dogs when I bought mine and couldn't complain about them.

Changed to Bilstein to get more length and different rate and they are great but not cheap.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

Are you sure? The Tough Dogs are still stock length with an extension added unless they have changed.

Just had a look on the bilstein web site and they dont list anything at all for Suzuki's

The Tough Dogs I fitted to a mates Vitara did have the extended weld on bit on the top. :?

I just really am looking for something that can take more of a beating. Ive only had my OME's for 18months and They are dead. ARB are replacing them under warrenty though.. Thanks ARB :D I was thinking of putting the repacments into my Stocka Vitara and getting the Tough Dogs for Zilla.. If they can handel more of a beating.. ;)

Quadrant distributors ( the local Bilstein agent ) can do a huge range of variants to suit just about anything.

I explained what I wanted, the variations from stock etc etc and they came up with a shock to suit.

Don't get me wrong - the Tough Dogs were good but the Bilsteins better IMO.

Yeah I'll give them a timgle but I think the range is limited as Im looking for a strut not just a shock. :?

I've talked to Quadrant in the past and I think they can offer a strut but again I don't think it has more travel than stock.

Your other option is Dobinsons as they do have a longer travel strut but I have no knowledge of the quality or valving. If you do go that way I'd be keen to know how they ride compared to the OME's.

Spoke to 4WD1 today and they told me the Tough Dogs are only stock length + 40mm Weld on bit on the top. + they are apparently just a re-badged Gabriel strut. I was advised to stay with the OME's . I will look into the Dobinsons next week. I may be looking at going a live axel front if I cant find something that can cope with the pounding!
