Mickey Thompson radial tyers are officially CRAP

i've had three sets of goodyear wranglers and never popped one. even when there was no tread i was tryin to destroy them, and couldnt. i recently brought a set of micky thopmson mtz, had them on the rig for three weeks. second trip out they started poppin. so i am goin back to goodyear's.
so soon i will have a cheap set of mtz for sale after the repairs.

I easily staked my Wranglers the first weekend I got them. I never had a problem with MT Radials. I didn't like the MTZ's though but others have loved them.

I can't think of anyone who would think highly of a 35" MT radial claw as a road/sand tyre...
They are just too big and aggressive. If you want no sidewall flex, responsive braking, tyres that stay in balance & handle well on the road, buy some 31" pirellis or something...

when did i say i was buying tyres to handle well on the road?? i just wanted a 35" tyre to keep my gearing similar to my 36et'2's without leaving dollar sign tracks down the bitumen.

two other mates had radials claws (one set 35, one set 33) and they both hate them now. sidewall strength and the ability to stay on the rim at low pressure where my biggest issues with these shit tyres.

yes i have staked radial claws and mtzs and even bais claws but at the end of the day i dont think theres any tyre i couldnt wreck. i have just replaced my 37 inch bais claws with 37inch creepy stickys but only because you can no longer get bais claws

Wouldn't a highyway terrain or an all terrain suit sand/bitumen better?? I'm by no means the sandpit king, but i always thought (excluding sand paddles) that aggressive tyres sucked in sand....unless you like digging.

they were a bit of a compromise. i still wanted something that i can use in any terrain if i was away, i didn't want to go from melb to qld or wa on beadlocked simex and i needed something for beachport.

Running radial claws (33s) and love them. Definitely get a set 35 when these wear out.

IMHO if someone stakes tyres 3 times, there might be an issue other than the tyres...

after competing in events all over the place, the harshest enviroment you could test any tyre on would have to be the Outback Challenge. the conditions vary from mud, sand, rock, & paddocks full of sharp sticks that dont care what brand your tyre is,,in this one paddock there wasnt a single brand that wasnt attacked in one form or another ,it was just luck not to get staked.

I have 35in radial claws on my 80. It would be a fair bet I drive my rig on tracks harder than most and I have never had a drama with my claws.

I really would love to see what people are doing to their tyres to damage them cos I give mine a bloody hard time when needed with out incident in 3 sets of claws.

They must be either bloody unlucky or bloody careless. Compare the Radial MT side wall to any other on the market and i"m sure they are the thickest.

If you want tougher, go bias-ply and kiss your braking and handling effeicentcy goodbye not to mention legalities - everythings a compromise they say.

I've got 31" radial claws on a suzuki and 33" MTZ's on a range rover and can't fault them at all.

Ripped a side wall on my 31"claws first time i took em off road. was at 18 psi. Since then been fine. Just bad luck id say.

I drove on 33'' radial claws for a year and never had a problem with punctures tears or anything. Ran them down to 18psi and never a problem with the beads either

i abused a set of MT radial claws for well over a year. i chipped a bit of tread off, and Mickey T were kind enough to send an assessor out to check out if they should replace them with newies at their cost. i ended up not taking them up on the offer because i found the culprit (bit of wayward guard).

although that set got a puncture after 10km... yep only 10k's. and it happened on my front lawn.

bought a set of 35/12.50/15 MT radial claws just over a year ago. since then have had to throw 2 in the bin its just like a big virgina virtically up the side wall. joined a lil bit at the bead and goes right up sometimes into the tread. i drive at ormeau alot in the creeks and stuff mostly rocks. run them at 12-15 psi depending on conditions. i think im up to about 10 puncture repairs so far. but also talked to other ppl and they think they are great never popped one they say, is it my driving?? i keep getting the shit batch of tyres?? fucks me all i know is my opinion is they are FUCKIN SHIT, for a massive company more should be expected, i mean who would design a four wheel drive tyre with such an aggressive tread pattern like the claw that you cant take off road without worrying. for the price these tyres should be in-destrucable.

Had a set of 35 inch claws on my MK patrol not long after they were released here. Never had a problem with them at all.
Got a set of 37 inch sticky claws on my buggy and never had a problem at all.
The miss Pajero has 265/16 MTZs on it and never had a problem at all.
I will be getting them again for the paj as they are a really great tire for the family to get around on and best is they are great up the beach as well. I have alot of confidence in them as they are excellent in the rain also.
On my old patrol i had a set of MTRs with a sqillion kays on them and were a decent tire. They got very noise and once they got a side wall tear on a tree root so they must be the worst tire of all. ( they werent i just wanted mickys again)

I've had 2 radial claws fail due to bad luck, staked them both otherwise they are a great tyre (shithouse lateral grip though, but thats not what they were designed for)

i did not vote because it was failure due to unfortunate circumstances and that wasn't an option on the poll.

I have been driving on the same radial claws for 2 years now as a daily driver and they have done willowglen challenge and alot harder so i cant complain.

The big problem with this poll is the question.

Maybe 77% of people have never used radial claws, therefore 77% of people have never had a sidewall failure with them.

Also in the past when someone has put their hand up and said "Claws are great" the mongos come out of the woodwork saying that anyone who uses Claws is a poss.

So basically any Outers poll on MTRCs must be taken with a dose of salt.

When 95% of people are happy with something and you describe them like their sidwalls are made of paper mache then either you got a bad batch(long shot) or you are rough on equipment....

I gave my mtz 100 ooo km of punishing and not a bother......

This definitly isnt the first or last thread on mickey t's being rubbish as that is what they are as far as the radial range goes, who gives a rats if people get big ks out of them if they are crap off road in anything above a medium graded track, they slide sideways, get staked very easily ie. i can park with my sidewall on a stick with my swampers and it just moulds to the stick - do it with a mickey t and its straight through the sidewall straight away.
