how do i get more travel out of the front suspension?

is there any easy way to get more flex from the front suspension? i flexed it up and noticed that the bump stops are quite close together and dont allow much up travel, would it be a bad idea to shave a bit off? or are they there for a reason.

Is the only real way to get more flex is to buy the new dropped arms from superior4x4?

leave the bumpstops.
what tires are you running and what lift?
when flexed up how much room is there between the top of the tire and the guard?

GQ's wont ever have massive front travel in standard form. just the geometry. plenty of threads on it. there are quite a few options but none are "cheap".. :(

Ive got a 2" suspension lift and a 2" body lift. im running 37" tyres, and have cut the guards so there is still room for uptravel. but only about 1" though.

so for 1inch not worth any cost...
I've read slotted bushes work, theres a thread on patrol forum regarding it.

or you could buy a 2nd hand susp kit, or use the current efs sale to raise your rig, 4 shocks and 4 dobinson springs, put them in yourself, might set you back 400 or 500 if your lucky

It is all about how well your castor bushes will flex. If you have poly castor correction bushes then you will have reduced flex. If you need castor correction bushes get rubber ones.

Softer suspension helps marginally but not really worth it.

Getting adjustable panhard rods help but same as soft coils, not by a lot.

Getting Hautechs holey bushes help a lot because they are soft but they won't last as long and not as safe for on road purposes when they are wearing.

Best is as you say Superiors Super Flex arms, a well set up 5 links and the X-link. Each has their advantages and disadvantages.

But look on the bright side, at least it isn't a torsion bar or independant front end.

You can take the front bolt out of your left radius arm when you go offroad. Do not drive on the road with it like this, put the bolt back in when you air back up. It will flex to the full capacity of your shocks with that bolt removed but will not be good for high speed work. Disclaimer: I am not encouraging you to try this, just giving an answer to your original question (there, I've covered my bum) and is something that many people have done safely. But, if you chose to try it, remember that you are modifying the way the suspension set up works and will effect insurance etc. as they will deem it unroadworthy in an accident.

Tried taking the bolt out on the weekend, with good results.
Took some measurements and got an extra 120mm travel out of the front end. got some pics.... With a 2" lift and 33's

Can this do any severe damage to your car, apart from panels/flares etc being hit with tyres

it will drastically affect the way your car handles, and do not ever keep the bolt out when ur not in the bush, its disaster waiting to happen

X-links, 5 links , superior Super flex arms all flex to the limit of the shocks, 5 links would be the more flexible if built correctly with shock towers up through the inner guards.
X-links and Super flex arms are still governed by the rear pin maxing out in the rear boss where as five links will not have this problem , be aware to much flex can cause problems in full bodied trucks if it's not set up correctly.

Superiors arms are best for stability. I have had feedback from another customer who says they are just as stable as normal arms on road. He is running Tough Dog shocks with them so this may make a difference. I am sure there is a difference but it seems to be negligable.

Get someone else to bounce the front left corner of the car up and down and it should line up and slide in easy. Putting it back in yourself can be a PITA.

3rds my friend nice flex and the take the frount bolt out it will blow your mind od it all the time on my longey love the travel i get o igot some long shocks to this also helps
