31's on a nt sierra

Post by islandvitara »

ive done a search and read the bible - the search i found nothing related to what im asking and the bible had what im after but didnt answer my question...

so dont flame me  im prepared anyway

i just put 31" maxxis trepadores on my swb nt sierra ahs the 1.3L....now i see alota dudes change there diff/gear ratios and theres a few different ratios to choose from...4.1's,5.12's,3.9's ect

which diff ratios will suit my new tyres? do i have to change them? do the aftermarket transfer case reduction gears affect the overall drive in high range?

do the diff ratios affect the type off driving i will be doing?

is there any benifits between the different diff ratios?

im more in to mud,sand,dirt/rocky tracks if that helps???

cheers, everyone

Yes transfer reduction gears do have a reduction in high range. Have a look at 4.9 or 5.14 reduction gears, these will reduce lowrange (better offroad) as well as highrange (better for on-road, should be close to stock gearing). A few people have these gears and say they are perfect for 31's

I'm runnin 32's on my NT SWB 1.3 and as far as i know the diffs are stock ratio(Been fitted with lockers before i brought it though!) but the transfer gears was the best mod i have done yet!

With the low gearing,f and r lockers and the super swampers it go's anywhere!

With 31s I wouldnt worry about changing diff ratios, just put 4.9s in the tcase. Alternatively you might get away with swapping over to a 1lt tcase if $$$ are tight.

What a gun of a trip! I loved that trip! Only bad thing was it was off the road for like 5 months and i ended up with pretty much a whole near rear half of the drivetrain!

We gotta head out again with shaggs and that!

*confusion*

A coil sierra case will fit a leaf car (with some small changes to driveshafts, and in a NT car you'll lose the handbrake) but why woudl you ever want a chaindrive case in a sierra that came with a gear drive case?
