Cant Start My 91 Diesel Hilux After Changing Fuel Filter?

Hi, thought I would post here to see if I can get a better response. I have very little mechanical knowledge. I have just changed my fuel filter, put the new one on, and connected the wired thing back that comes off the base. Primed the primer that sits on the top about 400 times. The ute wont start and there is no fuel coming back into the filter (I removed it to check if it had filled back up). Just wondering if there may be something simple I have missed. Thanks in advance guys.

u need to crack the injector lines off at the injector and pump till all the air is out :cry: do one at a time at first than all than try one again. than should be ok to start but keep the revs up.
at least thats how i normally do it on other diesels

The primers do fail and they are crap to start with.
I usually fill the fuel filter first as you should soak it for a while before use; they work better once they have fuel in the because the filter fibres swell. That is what Diesel Australia told me.
It also helps with the priming.
I upgraded mine and it now primes in 1/4 of the pumps and has a lever action instead of a push button pump.

All you need to do is fill the fuel filter up with diesel first then put it on and then shove a air hose and a rag to seal it in your filler neck in your tank to pressurise it.
You shouldn't have air in your injectors because your pump should be still full of fuel.

All we do at work it screw the new one on then take the line that goes to the fuel pump off use the primer a few times till is fills the filter up and comes out the the spout put the line back on boom all done....

i just crack the injector lines at each injector and turn it over till fuel pisses out. I then fasten up every second one (this is enough to get it going). Once going i turn it off and fasten the other injectors. Should start

if not, repeat process. Learnt this from engines that don't have primer pumps.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

Remove filter & fill with fuel, re-install it. Loosen nuts on injector lines @ the top of injector (17mm from memory) approx. 2 full turns, or until line is loose in top of injector. Wind engine over by key until fuel can be seen leaking out of loosened nuts. Fuel will be easy 2 see as it will squirt out. Tighten squirting nuts. Engine should run.

Under no pressure, it actually dribbles out, but still visible.

If you crank with a full filter long enough, it will eventually self bleed.

i always just put diesel in it to start, screw it back on, prime a fair bit. But when ya go to start it just crank it for a while stop. Then start again with ya foot on the floor and she fires and just hold her flat till she stops fartin/revs freely.

I disagree... I have never been able to jst crank it over and it will self bleed.

Air always gets trapped in there.. As long as your primer pump is working (they always fail) pump it up with the filter full and slightly remove the diesel return line on the injector pump... (you will see air coming out)

Cracking the injectors is a pain in the arse, and the outlet line does the same thing (on my truck)

X2, if the primer is cactus, it should still work enough once the line to the injector pump is removed.
There wont be any air in the injector pump, so no need to crack the injectors.

much the same, tho i clamp the line coming from the tank so it doesn't drain back into the tank. fit filter, prime untill fuel comes out of the filter housing, refit hose then crank it over.
if the primer is shot, a small electric fuel pump makes life really easy.
