Cant start after changing fuel filter???

Post by JJ »

Hi, I have very little mechanical knowledge. I have just changed my fuel filter, put the new one on, and connected the wired thing back that comes off the base. Primed the primer that sits on the top about 400 times. The ute wont start and there is no fuel coming back into the filter (I removed it to check if it had filled back up). Just wondering if there may be something simple I have missed. Thanks in advance guys.

If you have some spare diesel, try filling the filter before you screw it in. Make sure it is clean fuel though, or you will get gunk into your pump and injectors causing all sorts of headaches.

There is a chance that the diaphram in the hand pump has gone. Grab an air compressor, wrap a rag around the hose and jam it into the hole where you fill up. Disconnect the fuel hose near your fuel pump and turn your compressor on. Apparently that works according to my mechanic.

very small thread hijack just looking for a quick answer. What does the cable coming off the bottom do? changed the filter in my mates car the other day and couldn't see where the cable was supposed to plug in.

Not sure what those are, the lead comes from the little screw in plug at the bottom of the filter cartridge.

I'd say you'll find those wires are for the sediment light and warning buzzer look around there the plug will be there it may have been tucked away some where.

Is it not a whiff sensor for detecting water in your fuel?

Cheers,

Yep the wiring is for the sensor that floats up when the filter has to much water in it, u should drain a little bit out of the bottom every service.
