Thats correct. They were refering to Marks Zook which we all know may as well be a buggy. And Gonads made the comment because TTC had been trying to convince everyone it wasn't a buggy up until that point.

Gonads defianatly didnt take the young bloke for a ride as he spent most of the day getting the Firetruck back together.
Was only going on what was said at the presentation so my mistake for believing the organisers.

The diffs fitted to this vehicle are a brand new untested design and one of the components failed(possibly due to a bad casting) which caused the Portal to seperate from the housing.

I was sitting between the organisers and Gonads at presentation. I think you are a little confused as to what they said or were talking about. They never mentioned Gonads at all during that part of the presentation.

I was about 10 metres behind Gonads so was a bit further away from the speakers and was struggling to hear everything but could've sworn she said "Matt in his red buggy". The others around me thought the same. I'm now starting to think (going by what you have said) she must have said Mark in his red buggy, which does make more sense. I must be going deaf in my old age as I hadn't even been drinking. :cry: :oops:

I doubt anyone isn't impressed with it. It's an awesome rig. I think the people complaining have more of a problem with the rules allowing trucks to be modified to the point of looking just like a buggy. I have to agree that this is the new benchmark and is a credit to you for getting something as capable as a buggy to comply with the rules.

Maybe they need to look at running two classes like they do with the buggy comps as I think there will be a few more turn up next year built very similar.

Not knowing how much these are to get to this stage, but how far off turning into chq book racing is it getting to be competitive in top 5-6 positions? Lookin at photos of some rigs, they are planets away from others.

Well said garth! Looks like most people have forgotten about the Bushranger 'buggy' that has more rover content than petes old 40 series had toyota!

Tuff truck was a great weekend. The highlight for me was the look on Jamie's face when i said you can have a drive! I only met him for a short period of time he seemed like a great kid and what a great family he had as well. Well done to Mark for his donation and to Phil for first kicking it off first by taking Jamie for a drive. The sport needs more people and publicity like this.

Well done to Phil for the win, great bloke with a great truck very deserving winner.
Well done to Wayne Murphy for his 3rd place as well, total shock to all! There goes the big budget theory!
Well done to Ant and Shane as well brilliant drives for new cars.
Great effort by all competitors and event organisors.

What a top weekend. Some very nice drivin. Cannot wait until next year. Some of the rigs are miles apart in design but its all up to the man with the nads behind the wheel and his navi and some did an awsome job with the gear they had. UNREAL sums it up.

That Zuk is an awesome bit of gear.I wish i could afford to pay someone to build it or had the ability to build it myself but alas i don't. :cry: Yes it does look like buggy based more than full body truck but it was built within the rules and thats what counts. like any form of motor sports when any new vehicle debuts everyone else says it wrong/not good for the sport but at the end of the day if it fits in the rules deal with it.
If trucks like this aren't built we would driving around in 40's and g60's on split rims :D

I would just like to say thanks to Amy from tuff truck for all the help with getting Jamie a drive in Phills car and to Mal and Mark for taking him for a drive in there cars and helping this young guys dream come true.

At Christmas a mate was on holidays with his nephew (Jamie) and Jamie showed him a photo of a tuff truck that he would love to go for a drive in as part of his make a wish as Jamie has cystic fibrosis.
My mate said shit I know the guy that built that truck and he gave me a ring to see what I could do.So I spoke to Amy and she said leave it to me she organised tickets for the family and the ride in Phills truck which was all that Jamie ever wanted.Then when I was talking with Mal at the comp I asked if he could take him for a ride in the bush rangie and Mal said F##K mate not a problem tell him to come and see me.

Then I get a phone call last night from Phill telling me Mal took Jamie for a ride in his car and then gave him a drive around the mud event and then Mark gave him a ride in the zook and then gave him his $1000 cheque that he won for the show and shine and Phill was telling me he gave him the drivers side door of the Nissan.

So from one phone call to Amy you guys have changed this little guy life for ever you guys should be so proud I can not thank you enough.

His is what life it is all about to see the smile on this kids face and his mum and dads face was priceless.

do you wanna see the "best trucks built to the rules" or the "best trucks that could have been built to the rules except it wouldnt be in the true spirit of the sport so we will just run 33inch tyres and 2 inch spring lift"..
bring on the buggies for 2009 and lets see some hard stuff get driven..

anyway..none of the "buggies" won this year did they..it was won by the old skool style of Tuff Truck..the mud run was the big separator this year..49 inch tyres shone through on Saturday night..


gotta say that i think these tracks were a major improvement on last years tracks and were probably the best tracks that i have seen at Tuff Truck..well done on stepping it up properly by making obstacles and not by bringing the bunting in tight with ridiculous corners like last year

Thanks for giving some more details about this. I was only there for the Saturday and thought it was a great event, but I would have loved to see Jamie's smile as he met his heros and got to drive around in their trucks. I hope it was captured on video for the dvd. Congratulations to the people involved in making this happen, I'm sure they will remember it as much as Jamie. Sometimes it doesn't take much to make a big difference to someone who is doing it tough, Phil didn't need that door, but it will be prized possession for Jamie. Well done.

Your kidding? Did you see Waynes Mad Fab car? He built this thing on the dirt, for less than some spent on one diff!! Maybe he is the exception, but it does go to show that it can be done!

I'll echo this one too.. The tracks this year were the best tracks I've ever seen for a full bodied vehicle event! Well done to the organisers for putting the time, thought and money into building these new tracks.

Tuff truck in the USA is run with buggies AND full (well fullish) bodied rigs. course design can do alot to catch out the buggies or vice versa.

I'm not critisising with the following, i'm actually really interested in the answer. is that red zook/buggy road registered? engineered? if the answer is yes, then i recon Rusty's should havea a que of people out the door. if you put a solid price on one of those, turn key, registered, i, along with a few others i'm sure, would be alot more likely to buy one, and enter it in werock ETC, because you could also drive it on public tracks.

awesome build. and to those whinging "it's chequebook racing" or "the rigs are too much like buggies", well go watch woodpecker, nissan trials, or ateco, because if you want people to play in the terrain like is being driven in tufftruck, expect the rigs to be modified.

going by the pics that suzzyQ looks like a real well thought out & built rig. would really love to see some more pics of it! Awesome for a rig built mostly in a garage with a 12G pricetag!!! :cool:

& i also love the red zook. Buggy or otherwise, its hawt :D
so what, who cares, whats the difference if the centre part of the chassis is box section or tube section....!
I understand the tuff "truck" thing, and while these guys have done what looks like a shit hot job building the zuk to still meet the guidelines, IMO I think that IF they are going to keep on the straight and narrow in the direction of "trucks", they need to ammend the rules to draw a more definitive line between whats a buggy and whats not.

From the flip side though, I know if I built a rig to enter tuff truck, i'd be carefully thinking of how I built it so I wasn't limited to 1 or 2 events a year due to that style of class. something like the red zuk could easily roll up to alot of buggy/rock crawling events and still be competitive. :twisted:

But alas, there will always be people who whinge. :roll:

I'd have to agree with Turbo GU, the mud needs to be revamped along with some of the daytime recoveries. Those small kato's wouldn't pull the skin off a rice custard at full jib let alone a 2 tonne truck jambed up against the rocks..... Certainly an area for improving.

Team Drovers rollover on Sunday was a close call for those spectators. I stood right there on Saturday and watched Red Bitch do the same thing, thankfully for my sake, not as bad. Then there was the runaway tyre. That could have been much worse...... I wonder what penalty the pirate team got for that.

Crowd favourite would have to have been the "fridge". It seemed to go most places that you wouldnt expect a station wagon to go.

Not sure what happened late saturday arvo but I headed back to camp when the action slowed mid afternoon. Only to see Bandage bear come back with a broken portal, Gonads with a broken front diff and red bitch with the front wheel assembly ripped off....... Lesson to self, dont leave the track too early.

Well done to all competitors. My money was on ZUK404, but wasnt to be. Maybe next year guys.

We got the normal penalty for it, i was greatfull that no one was hurt could of been really bad was just an overlook on my part in all the excitment. The thing that bugs me is that one of my mates brought it to the judges attention and also trying to get my att but i didnt hear him, and was told to be shut up(outside assistance) we should of been stoped stop the clock give us a penalty and made to remove the tire before it had a chance to fall off, not passing the buck was my fault it was on there just saying if that sort of stuff is picked up something should be done about it before it came off and could of seriously hurt somebody my 2c

i heard hypo yell something out , & told him to stop the outside assistance , as bandage bear was nearly penalised the day before !! hey ruff !!! :D
if it was made clearer what was happening , i would have stopped you guys & removed the tyre !!

we are all lucky no one was hurt !!
