just wondering if anyone has used a micro tech with 1.6 tbi if so what one and how hard are they to tune
Microtechs are widely known as being a crude method of aftermarket engine management. They are very effective in drag cars etc where 500rpm tuning and fuel pionts aren't an issue, as the fuel needs to be poured in, but with a street driven vehicle they are a little behind the eight ball these days.
EMS, Autronics, Haultec? might be worth comparing price and features on a few of these with the microtech and see which works best for your application.

i got a new MT for my twin cam set up. it is very easy to fiddle with the settings, but i dont know what i am doing, so i leave most of it alone. it is one of the cheapest ecu's on the market and i dont have any issues with it. it was a very easy install too.

We have used the Microtechs on all the TBI setups we run as fuel only . even seans buggy runs one.
We have found them easy to use reliable and robust considering the shit they get put through. Tim (redzook) has our first setup on his buggy and it is one of the first digital computers they made DIGI 1 and has been going for the best part of 5 years now

I just installed one of these in my sierra. I bought a donor car with a g16A carb motor. Dropped that in mine, got an import TBI and manifold from suzisport that bolted straight up. I got the megasquirt in from diyuototune.com and built it in about 4 or 5 hours. I had more trouble doing the wiring harness in the vehicle than actually assembling the ECU. I'm still trying to tune it as we speak, the problem I'm having is my laptop connecting to it which is computer based not the ecu. Otherwise its running great. Perfect idle and cold start, very smooth too. The only thing that is really left is to fine tune my Air Fuel Ratio targets and acceleration enrichment to fix a hole in my off idle response.Santos wrote:Something i've nbeen keeping an eye on

Would I reccommend one? If your pretty handy then definately. I pulled out my 1.3, dropped in the 1.6, added tbi and megasquirt and had it running by Sunday night.
Just pray your laptop likes running through a usb-serial adapter (which mine doesn't)

EDIT: Oh, Santos was talking about a microsquirt Well mines the Megasquirt. Its more like $150-$200 for the stand alone unit in kit form. Then add for an o2 sensor, the tbi throttle body and manifold and wiring.

Yeah megasquirt would be cheaper but hey you need to buildit!
I sort of put the microsquirt as an idea as it is ' ready to go' in the way a microtech ecu is. It's also designed for motorbikes, atv and boats so its sealed from the elemnts making it a little more forgiving in a siera i guess

probably the most important thing should be, talk to a local tuner about what they use, talk to modified car part shops to see who and what they recomend.
cos when it all turns to shit, or you decide you want a decent tune you will want somone who knows their product. there is a fine art to tuning, you will not learn it over night.
