POWER STEERING UPGRADES

Post by fatassgq »

Anyone know of any power steering upgrades available to a 75 series?
Have a lot of trouble turning the wheel when tires are compressing/droping in offroad situations.

Is hydro steering very hard to put onto a sua cruiser.
I don't really want to go that far but am unsure of what else to do to improve performance of the steering.

Bigger unit adapted to fit cruiser? more fluid?

Any help appreciated

If the problem exist only when axle is articulated then it's a problem with the geometry not the power assist. I have hydro power assist and if your steering is whack mechanically then you will only break stuff.

That sounds good beebee but it has always been like this even when pretty well stock! The geometry of things hasn't really changed at all (yet?)
There is not as much scope for custom steering in a sua than something like a hilux for example because there is a lot less room between the chasis.

take the pump and box to memmotts (search in general 4x4 tech for my post) it'll be fine..... unless they are good already in which case there is heaps of room for a ram under there!!

Memmot's are gooood! Great service and pricing. At Windsor in Brissie near the new Bretts hardware if you know the area.

Cool thanks guys. I will give em a buz. Are they up to date with stuff that is a little different (custom?) I hate going to these places that have no clue about customised stuff and they sit there scratching there head or worse still say everything is cool and then fuck up!

they are not up to date with custom, they just rebuild for cheap and have good service.

you wont need custom stuff if your setup functions right, i can't see the problem, if its spring under, why is it so hard for you to steer?

Not really sure my self? I know the shackle reversal has moved the tie rod and draglink closer together but that is about all. It is not hard to steer at all until you tuck a wheel up in the guard.
Want to go bigger tires soon and want everything sorted out before hand

Doesn't this happen with all steering systems. If the steering did try and turn the wheels than something would probably fail. There is just too much pressure on the compressed tyre for it to break traction so as to turn.....unless you have hydro that is :D
