I am looking into modifying my high mount winch to spool the rope onto the drum from the top, this is to fit in into my GU air bag winch bar with little modifying of the bar,
I have stripped down the gear set and am doing a cost evaluation on the cutting of a new brake shaft gear set, I will need to spiral the gears in the opposite direction,
I have seen high mounts that have been set up with two gear box's, one at ether end, with this set up the brake would need to be disconnected on the one running in reverse as one would run backwards, bringing the brake on. This would be much weaker!
Gigglepin do a new brake shaft and spiral half gear.
I will need a service kit for this and am looking at upgrades,
Is there some one that specializes in comp winches that may be able to help me out or guide me through this project.
Cheers Phill

Living the dream on the hill that floods
why dont you just turn it around, so the gearbox is on the otherside. still works the same just your feed will now be over the top like you want. everything else remains the same, no extra work on the winch, only new mounting points. You just have to put up with people telling you that you have it the wrong way round.
