Time for some new (or 2nd hand perhaps) 35's for my MQ.
My decision was almost made
to get some open tread mud tyres like extreme trekkers however lately I have been thinking mud terrain radials might be better.
Intended use is weekend day trips and the monthly camping trip (ie 3-500km on road plus off road work, eg high country or similar).
How will something like extreme trekkers go for the occasional on road drive?
Am I better off with the mud terrain tyres?

By "wearing fast" do you reckon doing 500km on road each month would be worth getting something less chunky.
The other tyres I was looking at was someting like the silverstone mt117 sport (after just reading that thread). The Mud tyre ones not the creepy copies.
I guess I don't want to buy the ET's then decide they are too noisy or wear too fast and on the other hand I dont want to buy MT's and discover I want something better in the mud.....

If your worried about road noise......... ..... forget ET's. Unless the ET2's are heaps quieter, dunno. Are you running 2 sets of tires nad rims?? if so, get something aggressive for your second set. If your only running one set of tires, go MT's. remember if the cops do dick you for runnin 35's you will need normal tires to clear the defect.
Remember the best part of any tire is the first 5000-10,000klms while they have a square edge on the tread. Driving on road will fawk this square edge. but 500 a mth *SHOULDNT* bother them on a low HP MQ. As long as it isnt a 1200hp MQ that will spin and fuck all comers on the road, you will love em, if you have the HP to spin em

i reckon having brand new ones is where all the fun is
those first 5 or 6 trips while they stay square are awesome. but yeah i hate driving them on the road. you might as well drive around throwing money out of your window!!
i have an old set of 36 pedes for road(my truck doesn't see much road though) and a new set on locked rims for fun.
i would say get some cheapies(if you're only doing 500km p/m they'll last long enough) for road and some simies for play
my et2 in 35s were a decent tyre on the road, never balanced them and they ran true and straight a little bit of noise but no vibration at all.
Am now running tsl sx in 36s and they are about the same noise wise but no were near as stable on road but a better tyre off road by far. If you only do 500ks a month have you considered boggers, i ran them for 12months and did about 10k on road and they still had plenty of life left when i pulled em off, not to bad on road if ran at the correct pressure but you can feel the lugs when slowing to a stop.
Id go boggers or the tsl's then the simex 3rd.

For the amount of km's you're doing - i'd go with an open, agressive pattern, and dont worry about the wear factor.
I only use my Patrol once every 2 weeks, and on weekend trips. For the amount of km's i do, i'd much rather have a tyre thats good in the bush than a more conservative (read: quieter) tyre. Thats why God created big stereos and ear muffs for. plus i dont try to drive the Patrol like a race-car, so the onroad handling doesn't really apply to me that much.
