ARB Air Locker Help

I know this has been mentioned before, but couldn't find a reason.

The rear locker in my lux (newer model) was pumping oil out the solenoid, warm diff oil, not heaps but enough that when I disengaged the locker it would shoot oil out and make a bit of a mess. The front locker is an older type and it didnt have this problem at all.

Was wondering if it means a seal or similar has gone (they are under a year old), or its just normal? They worked fine and the were no air leaks etc....

Anyone care to share why this is happening?

Ya theres a seal gone, mine do it all the time and have for years. My front one is worse for it then the rear is and it is a older one. I have just lernt to live with it :roll:

Menaing, you dont bother fixing the seal? Or you learn to live with putting a new seal in each time?

Can you give us some info on what seal it is, can I fix it?

is it a fine spray, or a generous squirt?
the fine spray is normal, but on some models ARB put a "drainback" line in as well, so that when the locker is disengaged, the oil can trickle back in. Ring ARB up and ask them about it, they are pretty helpful usually...

MY back one on the mav did it. Blew out the line with the compressor. I had the air line at the diff pulled out when i did it. I took the breather out & cleared it and the breather line. Took a while for it to finally clear, but it did, so check the breather line to c if it is blocked

Its a squirt. It bubbles out slowly but continually and when you dissengage the locker it squirts. Its more than the normal little fione spray and oily smell you usually get.

I see this sometimes even with brand new installations. does your pinion seal leak, even a little bit? last one I installed, with lots of oil coming back up the air line, had a mild leak at the flange seal, which may somehow have been contributing to oil getting inside past the U ring or O rings - fixed the pinion seal and now much less oil comes back up the air line. if the locker works and the compressor doesn't cycle when the locker is engaged, it may be that the installer was a bit generous squirting the 80W90 around while putting it together, and the annular cylinder was half full of oil to start with.

check also that the axle breather isn't blocked, if it is, the blue line starts acting like a breather when the axle warms up, oil can be forced past the o-rings.

i dont have any leakage with mine and my rear pinion seal is pissing out oil and has been 4 ages.

Tonka, mine did the same as yours EXACTLY THE SAME. If the breather lines are ok then u have a seal issue. It did take a while for mine to clear once the breather was cleared. In fact the breather wasn't even fully blocked, only a minor restriction. good luck with it.

I had some oil coming out of my solinoids within a few weeks of them being installed - i took the car back to arb and they pumped some air down the lines to clear them and it never happened again...

It wasn't a lot of oil coming out though.
