Then you would have to take into concideration things like different electrical cabling, different charging systems (alternators), winch pulling height (whether one is higher or lower than the other), and if the winching vehicle isnt anchored then suspension/tyres/vehicle weight have to be looked at.

Coxy
Not really. Cables are part of the kit. Use the same batteries and do a dead pull so you don't need to take into account the alternator.

I am waiting for the winch off and i am sure others are to. If tigerz is as good as said i will go straight out and buy one as i am sure others will to.

Sooner or later the chinese are going to either force warn to china (if not all ready) or if not anything else force their prices down.
They are for ever getting better.

My apologies - i should have been more detailed. I was reffering to alternator cabling, earth straps etc. Vehicle cabling, not winch cabling.

Winch Off Details ...

Was schedulled for 12 noon but I have #1 son playing football and #1 wife is bed ridden and I have to take him. I've been told. Can we make it for 4pm at all? On Saturday I am driving interstate to pick up a "parts car". Good thing the missus is in bed - what she can't see wont hurt her.

I think people coming will have open minds and keen to see up close what the likes of Iron Man, Tiger and Warn and anything else have to offer. If Tiger has a good product then I will stand by it. I know ironman is good and already stand by their products. I'd rather this not be a competition or "show down" but rather a network/workshop field day type thing on winches - who knows, maybe this will lead into a truly professional field day modelled on specific product types.

Address 1300 Frankston Flinders Rd Somerville Vic.
4PM this sunday.

Hello All

I am prepaid send send a new winch down but its not going to arrive in time.

Also i have heard that in china there are factories attempting to make either a 15000lb/16800lb 12v low mount winch ,when i talk low mount i mean to fit in the ARB and TJM bars and so so,,,the company i deal with say it cant be done successfully ,,,,there concerns were the drum size not being able to carry enough rope they say max 18metres,,,the company i deal with do have a 13000lb low mount winch that dimensionally will fit in the ARB bars ,,,any thoughts on this
regards all

size

Post by Hobzee »

Something like 18,000 pound would sell but agreed size will hold it back - I have the same problem with the BOSS compressor - bigger and better than any other 12V compressor (no doubt) but hard to find a place to put it. I think 12,000 is already bigger than most people need - I can see a stronger winch reefing bull bars off cars and causing other problems.

I think if you sell the winch on its strengths and spend less time worrying about the competition you would do just fine. The market is so big there can be several winners.

hey, anyone bought a Warn lately? I just did - XP9.5 after a lot of research.

Pulling it apart it sure looks well made, but the sealing is not as good as I thought it would be. I'll have to fix that myself.

Interstingly, "Made in China" appears on several bits and pieces, and nowhere does it say "Made in USA" or wherever it is actually made - I've got to suspect China given that is what is stated on several packagings......Warn web site is silent too - how convenient:)

Guess we'll have to get used to Chinese for everything, at least until there's a cheaper place to make things and fatten profits (Cambodia anyone), including fridges and washing machines.

My advice, get over it, I have even though it cost me nearly 2 K for the most recent pleasure (read pain) of finding "made in china" where I least expected too:(

Hum......

Well i guess i won the low mount test with the tigerz (by default)
as nobody else turned up
and hobzee beat me with his comp high mount and i burnt out my motor trying to keep up.
Maybe tigerz can give me a new winch for my effort
now not wanting to get into a debate about who's winch is better
be it a warn Ironman tigerz repco or even the aldi in a low mount
I can only comment on the tigerz
This is a good winch for those starting out 4wdriving it has saved my butt twice and i have rescued a hilux that was stuck in a bog hole (big time)
if i had to get in a tow truck to rescue me on those two occasions it whould cost me more than what i had paid for the winch
So for those who want to buy a low mount buy whatever one that has the longest warranty

Nice one Tigerz11... You da man ...

Hamo started with a SWB FJ40. It is now a Troopy.

I would like to organise a proper workshop demonstration in a more scientific environment and invite all winch companies and winch modification companies and advertsie it in mags, clubs, etc. We would compare strength, speed, current draw, price, warranty, available parts, etc. Given that most interested people wont be comp rigs then speed is less of a concern and we would be more after a pulling power output to current draw ratio. If we could get almost every brand there and the dudes such as Smithy, Flamin and Mal Leslie we would have quite a comprehensive line up and be an occassion worth attending.

Well it apears tigerz11 want's to exchange my winch for a new one not just replace it for my effort.
i was going to get my old one repaired for my son to put on his shorty 40
i guess i just repair this one for myself and not bother to stick up for and plug his winch anymore

that just got a bit weird :?

i hope that was a typo hamo, because if not then it looks like you're knocking back the offer of a Brand spanking new winch, where before all of this you had a used winch. :? :? so for the time and expense of going to a winch vs winch challenge you get your winch updated to a new one......sounds like a good deal to me.

doesn't make you look all that good.

Tell him to jam it up his ass. Ungrateful bastard doesn't deserve it.

I have to ask though - what happened, did the motor burn out? under what circumstances? Is it likely to have happened during a real recovery situation?

I was going to give props to tigerz11 for a) standing behind his product; and b) offering to completely replace and old banger winch for a new one.

Did we miss something?? It doesn't sound right....
