Daihatsu Terios --

Post by meece4x4 »

OK peoples ... How good are these little beasties on road .. YEAH YEAH I know they are soft roaders and not "real" 4wd's, my wife is looking at swapping her 2006 Nissan Tiida for a 2006 Terios, she wants something that is a little better on fuel, anyone know how ecconomic they "really" are (rather than googled results, as the Tiida's real ecconomy is miles off it's stated ecconomy).

Also what are they like on sand? we wont be doing any real 4wd'ing in it but do want something that we can nip down the beach or zip up to the back paddock of the farm once in a while, bearing in mind the Mighty Fezora will be in attendance with winch and snatch strap just in case,

7,5 - 8 l per 100km.

Diffs are the same as in daihatsu charade 4x4 (so good thing is, that if you broke it, you can buy a old charade 4x4 and swap the diffs)

Final speed is 130 and in that speed you fell like you are in a bulldozer.

But overall good car without problems and a lot of parts from feroza (water pump, clutch, etc.) are the same, the others are from applause 1.3 or charade 1.3.

Yuk :?

If she just wants a car that is good on fuel why not get a car

I can't stand Terios's. They're ugly, and look too skinny/top heavy. But thats just my humble opinion :D

Get her an old pulsar. They run off the burnt petrol fumes from other cars and will prolly go further offroad than the Terios if you drive it hard enough

EDIT: 8L/100 sounds really crap for a modern, light car considering my old tech 2 tonne diesel Rocky can do 11L/100 without breaking a sweat, and driving like miss daisy and keeping under 90kph will get it down to 10L/100 easy :?

lol .. trouble with that train of thought is we WILL NEVER touch another Nissan again, the Tiida is a heap of crap, badly designed and only does 8.9L per 100km and thats a frigging modern car, The Mrs Likes the shape of the Terios  , she was allowed to bring it home from the yard overnight for a test drive (bad move ;) ),

it drives like my Feroza and after taking it up the back of the farm last night and engaing the center difflock found it is more than capable of going most places the Fez can, it has a very low geared 4.01 first gear and can *almost* match my Fez in Low 1st for crawling, it had no problems cutting thru deepish mud and has the same ground clearance as the Fez standard

Ground clearnce is important as we live in an area that floods when we have more than 1/2 of rain  a number of times the Tiida has had to be left on the side of the road because of its crappy 115mm ground clearance.

in fact the only thing that lets it down is the lack of 4wd low on very steep slopes (but the Mrs is used to left foot braking her auto zook down steep slopes anyway), and the narrow wheel track, but thats not too much of a worry as a set of zook mags like mine will increase the offset by 100mm giving it the same wheel track as the fez.

I reckon with a set of 225x75x15 Hankook RT01's on her it would enough of a 4x4 to do most of what she needs (she is a real estate agent and needed something that can handle the rutted farm tracks and such but still carry clients in comfort and look "nice"), the heavy stuff she can use her Zook for .

taking the Terios back to the dealer this morning to swap it for the Tiida, LOL hope he dosnt spit the dummy over the mud :) ..we got her kind of dirty last night

I have to admit .. the Terios is very much like a Feroza .. people laugh at it and call it names ..but it is far FAR more capable than it looks, if they had put the hi/low transfer case in it and widened the wheel track another 100mm it would have been at least as good as the F300 Rocky/Fez'z it replaced. as it is it would hold it's own against the Feroza model that has the center difflock and permanant 4wd.
