Got the isuzu sold for a good fair price and now the build starts for my little wombat.
I've opted for a stroked rover, 4.4L with probably a megasquirt system, and coilpacks, ZF (HP24?) auto. - as i couldn't engineer a 5.7L, and thought i would keep it all rover instead of a 5L dunnydore donk and adaptors, etc -
the isuzu will come out in 3 or so weeks for my mechanic to start dummying up the fit, then hopefully another 4-6 weeks she'll be running.
Any tips/pointers/things to consider when doing all this would be greatly appreciated,
cheers

4.4
G'day sam sorry i havent been in touch i'll have the pics up shortly why the 4.4? either way I'm sure it will be worth it if you need any help or info on the conversion give us a shout and good choice with running coil packs i've had mine submersed and it just keeps going

hey Mr. Hall,
going the 4.4 as (apparently) it'll be better on juice, more ponies then a 4.6, and hopefully as it will be a freshly built i will be very reliable for years to come. could of gone a 3.9, 4.6 or P76 for a lot cheaper, but decided to go this way for something a little different.....anyways we'll see how she turns out. It'll be interesting to compare it to your red bus at the end of the day, to see of the extra bucks are warranted or not???

there was a thread on D90 source I was reading the other day about an upgraded ZF pump, was linked from LR4x4 IIRC, will try to find it later.
The alternator will depend on which front end you use on the motor, V belt or serpentine, but it would want to be 120A, I havent found the part # yet but I will be using a 120a to suit the serp on my 4.6

well the wombat goes in next week to loose the 4BD1.
decided to make a few temp changes to cut a few bob, as my employment circumstances will be changing in a few weeks and gotta keep a tighter wallet.
changes -
- no coil packs (just yet)
- just going to run a simple holley fuel injection system for now, because its free, will update the whole injection system, pump etc when i can afford to go do everything in one hit.
- going a mild cam
Question - are roller rockers worth the money - my mechanic tells me for the rovers you don't get much change from $1000!! whereas for chev's etc they are only $500. i can get standard rockers for free, i know there are other mobs who make them, but i've been told for the money you either go rollers or save the coin and standard?
i'd appreciate any opinions and experience?
cheers.

If it was a ford I would say unnecessary for that lift, although it does reduce isideways loads on the valve and less wear. However I am not a Rover expert so wouldnt like to say, though a suggestion here is that it wouldnt be necessary http://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... er+rockers
Small update.
auto is fitted up - selector sits just beside the handbrake, engine mounts done - sits about 2" or so further back then a standard county 3.5, cams ready, waiting on the crank...
ok so it looks like i'll be losing a small amount of torque and capacity as the 4.6 crank (using this to make the serpintine belt easier, otherwise would use a P76 crank) has a smaller stroke 3.43"? compared to 3.5" then the P76 crank.
will have to get the pics off ma phone and up shortly...
and looks like i'll probably run some 49% maxi Xfer gears

Hey same if you are going to run the 50% low range gears I hope you dont want to be doing any highspeed events. I run the 30% and top speed in 4th is around 40-50k/hr

hey ben, as much as i'd love to comp it one day, i probably won't as don't want to kill it. by the way 40-50k's i'd be swapping to high range before then anyways your probably running 4.11's in your fender
the gearing will around the 46:1 with the 49% as i'm only running stock 3.54's CWP's, but then again there is probably a good chance when i have horsies to pay with they will die a sudden death and i'll have to look at 4.11's or a toyo cent conversion in which case i could swap back to 30% if needed
