Hilux turbo exhaust

Post by troylux »

Hey guys,

i just put a dts turbo kit on my hilux.

i got a 2.5 inch exhaust with a small muffler on it and it ends at the back of the cab but its practically silent.

what exhaust do you guys have on your turbo hiluxs to get the nice turbo whistle

I don't want a exhaust the is stupidly loud
but i want nice spool noise

Thanks

troy

The turbo absorbs a lot of noise before the muffler.

A good straight through sports muffler gives a nice sound.

Did you fit the turbo your self? if it was fitted in a shop they should have tuned it.

if not then get it done.

I know someone who did an engine by not retuning his 2.8 after turboing it. get it dynod for $150 and it should run at its best, it also means you can drive it without worrying so much.

If you play with it yourself then make sure you get a pyro gauge as too much fuel can make it run very hot. see one of my posts a few weeks back for a cheapy.

As far as I know you can tune them ROUGHLY (and i still reckon get it dyno tuned) by loosening the locking nut on the pump and turning the screw 1/4 turn then testing it, from what i knoe dont turn it more that 1/2 turn total - watching for extra black smoke out the back - this is unburnt fuel. if it blows too much smoke the undo your last adjustments untill the smoke is not so noticable.

If you search the bible there should be a better description of how to do it. it should also tell you which way to screw the adjustment to increase fuel.

If in doubt spend the money on a dynotune - anyone had a dyno done near where troylux lives and been happy with their service?

What will that do as in will the noise be alot louder and give you a KW gain?Just wondering as I have the same motorandwant to experiment with the exhaust. I assume you will be changing the dump pipe to 3in too.

Dont adjust the fuel at all with out a egt gauge.
The paper work u get with the turbo say to screw it it 1/4 of a turn. I did just that and could hit 700deg on the flats in about 10sec. It is now 1/8 of a turn and have a water-air intercooler sitting here waiting to be fitted up. That on a 3ltr running 9psi
